A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I've been trying to do a little shopping every time hubby or I have to go into Fresno. Today, he had a dentist appt so he dropped me at the mall.

I need to spend a day cleaning so we can put our tree up. Sigh ..... I also need to wrap gifts that need to be mailed or delivered.

I'm hoping to finish by this weekend.

Marissa is really excited. She wants to know if Santa's reindeer are going to land on our roof. I told her they would probably land in the driveway since we have no chimney. Then she asked if he would just leave coal if we tried to stay awake and watch him.

Do you think she really believes in Santa at 7? I'm not sure.

Funny, your question, I was just talking with my daughter at bedtime about this. She's older and said kids in her class still believe. So Marissa may still believe. Maybe the kids just like to believe. :)

My daughter figured it out early. She said, Mom why is Santa's wrapping paper the same paper you wrapped Grandma's gift in? LOL :) I guess I wasn't very good at covering it up, she figured it out not long after. In 2nd grade she looked for, found and peeked at the gifts I had hidden. ;)

GeeBee, I'm sorry to be so late getting here; your thread is just beautiful and the music you've linked is outstanding. I can never listen to streaming music, but would like to download a couple tomorrow if it's still available.

I especially love the main background you chose with the trumpet and Christmas decorations.

Will see you tomorrow for WWF - earlier I hope. :)

Great lines! Thank you so much for these devotions, dear Mayor, and Merry Christmas/Happy Resurrection Day - advents both!

Money Talks

READ: Luke 12:13-21

The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness. —1 Timothy 6:10

As I was driving home from the office, I saw a minivan proudly displaying a bumper sticker that read: “Money Talks: Mine Says Goodbye.” I think a lot of people can relate to that sentiment.

Much of our living is spent acquiring and using money, which doesn’t last. The stock market crashes. Prices go up. Thieves steal others’ goods. Things wear out and break down, requiring the acquisition and expenditure of more money to replace what has been lost. The temporary nature of material wealth makes it a poor bargain in the search for security in an insecure world. Money is much better at saying goodbye than it is at sticking around.

Nowhere does the Bible say it’s wrong to have money or the things that money can buy. Where we lose our way is when money becomes the driving purpose of our lives. Like the rich man and his barns (Luke 12:13-21), we end up pursuing the accumulation of things that eventually will be forfeited—if not in life, then certainly at death.

How tragic to live our entire lives, only to end them with nothing of eternal worth to show for our labors. To paraphrase Jesus’ words, it is much better to be rich toward God than to work for treasure that can’t last (v.21). Bill Crowder

Let me hold lightly things of this earth;
Transient treasures, what are they worth?
Moths can corrupt them, rust can decay;
All their bright beauty fades in a day.  —Nicholson

Treasures in heaven are laid up as treasures on earth are laid down.
