A Romanian priest wants women to pay a "white-dress fine" if they're not virgins when they marry.
Father Petrica Bratu, 37, says he hopes the fines will stop couples from living in sin.
Couples who had just moved in together would pay about $20 but brides who were pregnant or had children would pay about $120.
The average Romanian salary is about $200 per month.

White is to signify purity and virginity but instead it is used as deceit and makes a mockery of marriage.False advertising for sure and just where do you find a virgin?Al-Queada can't even find enough to pay off its suicide bombers!

What if they use the Bill Clinton defense that you-know-what isn't sex?
Do they get to wear a white dress--but with a black hem?

A Romanian priest wants women to pay a "white-dress fine" if they're not virgins when they marry. Rev. Jackson says, "A white tax! I like that!"

"Feminism and birth control have guaranteed that the myth will remain just that, a myth."
You don't have a clue about women.

My exwife would agree with you.
But I would hazard a guess there are fewer true virgins in the world today than there are true blondes. Over the age of 12 anyway. And that goes for either gender.
And yes, I consider it a d@mn shame.

I do not say this facetiously so please take it in the spirit of good will.
Good for you!
You were the rare exception. How many other women(or men) do you think could honestly say the same though?

The last thing I think newly married couples need is to start popping out babies before they're marriage relationship has just started. They need time to get to know each other first and grow before they make a big step like children being added to the mix.

In the (hands) of a responsible adult, I'm all for taking measures to keep from bringing a life into the world that may be murdered for convenience or mistreated because the childs parents don't want the "burden".
However, easy access to birth control and the idea that a pill can keep you from getting caught if you screw around has helped fuel promiscuity. There's no risk, if you pop a pill or can go get a doctor to vacuum up the mess, there's no reason to resist little Jimmies advances.

Sure there is: morality. Knowing right from wrong. Remaining pure and saving yourself for the right person.
BTW, I was put on birth control pills when I was 15 by my male medical doctor as a teenager to help control my cycle. There are medical reasons why the hormones in the pills can help.

They need time to get to know each other first and grow before they make a big step like children being added to the mix.1.People should not be getting married if they don't know each other. 2. Getting married isn't a big step? 3. "Grow?" That's the kind of term people use when they are trying to explain why they are dumping their spouse.
If someone doesn't want to have children fine, but do you have to use such a derogotary and contemptuos expression for what some people might consider a beautiful thing.

All good and fine notions, but in this day and age, they are dying concepts. I wish it were not so, but you can't deny facts. Morality is as foreign to the average child of today as breathing water.
I think perhaps you and I are on the same side here Mara, we're just coming at it from different directions.

What about off-white? Is that acceptable?

Yaelle,
You should know how it was done in the old days with tradition Jews (and possbly today with some Haredim).
The newly weds retire to their Chuppa for a half hour as everyone goes to the reception. After they are finished and dressed the sheet is inspected for the appropriate bloodstain.
In Modern Orthdox and Conservative wedding ceremonies, there is still a Chuppa, but the groom generally eats something, as he has fasted all day. (Whether he nibbles on his wife is another question. Given the amount of time put into hair and make up, I think not!)

We had that at our wedding as well, though just with the plate of fruit and such. :) I am forgetting the word for that private time as new husband and wife.
