Maybe you better try reading the backstory of someone's posts before calling them defeatists or trolls.

Not to mention saving Chile from communism and turning it into one of the best economies in the west before he stepped down.
On things like Social Security, Pinochet was a visionary.

I'd rather lose the Republic then (sic) abandon the rule of law and the code of human decency.
You did write this, did you not?
and on top of that baloney you wrote this too:
"And if the communists/radicals/islamists were in your own country, were your own citizens?"
You are proposing allowing those who would destroy our nation from within the opportunity to do so...now that is defeatist.

You truly believe that the US Constitution is a document which can be laid aside if YOU think the threat to the Republic is great enough?
I took an oath to defend the Constitution, not the blood thirsty ideals of freedom and democracy you seem to think are justification for mass murder.

I think it was rather scummy of you to supplant the actual news story with your Leftist propaganda. You should have at least had the decency to post you malevolence in a reply.

I read an article while lurking at Democratic Underground. the article said that Chavez gave free heating oil to some poor woman in the States or something to that affect.
The responses made me sick.
They posted that Chavez was always right on...
...that Chavez was a true statesman.
...that Chavez should be applauded for insulting President Bush on our soil.
..."Bravo Chavez"
...And one particularly charming DUer with an upsidedown US Flag for an avatar said that he wishes Chavez would get rid of Bush and take his place as our leader.
What do you say to people like this? This is the mentality that mainstream America voted for and they don't even know it.

"Semi-Vigilante" justice is precisely what is required when the Communists shred your constitution and begin seizing the means of production. Pinochet prevented Chile from becoming a bloodbath of Communist terror, not to mention preventing Chile from being used as a base to spread revolution and terror throughout Latin America. If you had your way, Pinochet would have been put down by the "proper" authorities, and Chile would be a Communist dictatorship in league with our enemies. With friends like you, who needs enemies.
To: Professor Kill; brothers4thID
The truth about Pinochet did for Chile is this:
Salvador Allende and his Marxist-Communist coalition party Unidad Popular, employing massive electoral fraud and with financial backing from the Soviet Union, barely squeaked out a plurality of 36 percent in Chiles 1970 presidential elections.
With an army of some 14,000 foreign Communists, Allende began to transform Chile into a totalitarian dictatorship.
Allendes administration was thoroughly packed with Cubans, Soviets, and other international Communists.
In short order, the Allende forces had looted the treasury, destroyed the economy, illegally expropriated thousands of private farms, homes, and businesses, and unleashed a wave of terror.
Chiles judiciary and legislature, as well as prominent leaders of all sectors of Chilean society, repeatedly condemned Allendes actions and called upon the military to intervene.
The Pinochet-led coup was supported overwhelmingly by the Chilean people, who also voted to approve the new constitution offered by the junta.
Documents and arms captured when Allende was overthrown on September 1l, 1973, proved that Allende was planning to stage his own coup on September 19th, and to slaughter his opposition.
The international Communist apparatus has continued an unceasing war of terrorism, subversion, and propaganda against Pinochets Chile ever since.
The Pinochet junta reacted with remarkable restraint toward its violent opponents.
The Pinochet junta has never received credit for the peace and freedom it delivered to the Chilean people, or for the marvelous economic and social reforms it accomplished.
President Pinochet, as he promised, voluntarily stepped down from power, returning the reins of government to civilian control, after establishing stability, security, and constitutional reform.

You should have put your OPINION in a reply like everybody else. Instead, you hijacked the news portion of your post with Leftist drivel.
To: BARZOK
My pleasure. It pisses me off that Mr. Headache used breaking news of Pinochet's death to rudely insert his opinion about his life (and afterlife) in place of what should have been a news item. And it even makes me more mad that the mods let it stand.
To: GSlob
Thus your argument does not hold water and is fellatious. Ahem. That would be... fallacious.

Some typos are done on purpose - to throw much sharper light on the object.

I, for one, did not ever endorse the Allende regime or say that an overthrow of Communism was a bad thing. What I do not support is the hero worship of a man who ALSO suspended the constitution and either turned a blind eye to or willingly agreed to summary executions without benefit of the rule of law.
Typical mob-justice on this thread that anyone who disagrees and states an opinion immediately becomes the enemy. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Some of us would rather the Pinochet regime had been a bit more law abiding while stamping out communism.
