"Des Browne promised handover but not withdrawal Mr Browne refused to be drawn on the exact numbers, but he made clear that if the planned return of Basra to full Iraqi control goes ahead next spring it would be followed by a significant "draw down" of British forces."

Sounds amazingly like the same plan we've had all along...

Pollard is w/the Brookings Institute, a ME expert, and is pro-Iraqi war.

He is the minority, then. The Brookings Institute leans left, or am I thinking of CATO?

we are treated to daily pictures of car bombings, which insinuate that the US is partially responsible for the violence.

Gunfire in Baghdad, Celebratory Fire that is.

So the Mo1 peace plan would look like this? :-)

Snip

I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of one plan for peace. "Books, not Bombs" won't work. The head mullahs won't let anyone read them. If they do, they poke their eyes out.

Here's the plan:

1) The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past &present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers.

5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else.

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if any anyway.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.

11) The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'You want a piece of me?

This list is wrongly attributed to Robin Williams. At this time no one actually knows who wrote it.

Sam Brownback is a very "apologetic" person..

Way too squishy to be POTUS.

Baker: "We're not going to win this war militarily. We are only going to win politically."

Baker spent his whole career trying to "Fix" the Mideast politically and was an utter failure. Israel/Palestine, Desert Storm, he never fixed a thing. I think it's because he never got the simple fact that without the military club in one hand you have no political strength in the other. And if you have the will to use your military in decisive ways you can change the politics on the ground in ways favorable to your interests. But then Baker worships "stability" and military action has a disturbing tendency to upset the stable apple cart. Diamond Jim and his like prefer not to be upset.

The Russian were totally ruthless in Afghanistan. How did that work out for them?

Curious, you do realize the vast bulk of the people currently fighting and dying on OUR side are also Muslims right?

Last weekend we had two major tournaments.\

The Islamorada Sailfish where 401 sailfish were released--winner had 27 releases in three days and the Redbone/celebrity event.
Kind of lack luster.
My buddy set an informal record here in the Keys not too long ago catching 5 swordfish in a single outing, kingfish are moving in as are mackerel, bluefish and other seasonals.Looks good for th winter.

While watching MTP it took everything in me from keep smashing my TV

(Not so) secret answer to that problem...............

I watch 'Meet The Depressed' on a little black and white tv out in my nursery (outside).

I buy these little things from thrift stores from time to time. They serve a fine purpose. I guess I have about eight of them around the place right about now.

If you really get angry (as I suppose that you did this morning), you just create mayhem and destroy one of them.

Me however (Walter E. Williams)....... since I went to the trouble of purchasing these cute little old tv's for from $2.00 to $5.00, I don't want to waste the money destroying them just because of some repugnant politician who angers me.

You see.......... I am very thrifty.... (cheap).

Jane Harman's voice is more male than that of Chris Shays. I think Jane is on the "let's divide the country up" bandwagon. Wolfie supports this point of view, which Shays does not.

Is Shays gay, not that I care a whole lot, but he is very girlie.

Oh dear, Harman thinks Yugoslavia is the correct model.

Jane Harman: I think we need a new "strategy" for Iraq. The ISG report is taking shots from the right and the left, and so it is probably about right.

I don't know enough that is going on to know exactly what recommendations aren't feasible.

She says her opinion of partition...and the Iraqis seem to want this...

BUT, that isn't in this report (which she just endorsed)...and that is what is wrong with this report.

LOL...talk about a contradiction in one sentance.

Shays: I would not encourage division...they are all mixed areas..

Wolf: Many neighborhoods are not mixed anymore due to us being there.

Jane Harman: Semi-independant regions...Yugoslavia is the model here.

Wolf: the ISG doesn't like it, nor does Pres. Bush.

Jane: I know they don't.

Shays: I don't recommend that, but if it happens, it happens.

Jane: We could out of Iraq sooner (William Perry says so..and he is the architect of this study).

Sandra D. O'Connor to me, "Jane, that this report and move on"...and I agree with that!!!

LOL---she just said she disagrees with the non-partitioning.

Shays: I want a timeline in speed to train Iraqis...I want tto give them very little time...months.

Jane wants us to start moving out RIGHT NOW. She wants to focus on other parts of the world that are more dangerous, like Lebanon.

Wolfie absolutely wants a timeline. These media guys really do think they are running this thing now. "How much time should the US give Iraq" he asks. He wants a set deadline.

The US Army, just the Army mind you not the Marines, has 43 Combat Brigades, we have 12 in Iraq. We have plenty of troops. However, as usual the screaming morons in the US Senate simply ignore ALL facts that do validate their partisan political bigotry.

That a US Senator simply ignores what the Ground Commander in Iraq, Gen Abizaid, said to the US Senate 3 weeks ago when asked if he need more troops is gross incompetence and criminal level negligence on the part of Senator Levin.

The more I see, hear, and learn about these D.C. lawmakers, the more I cringe at knowing that so many of them are so unintelligent, uninformed, unprincipled, and unpatriotic. God help us all; they won't.
