Christmas terror attack 'highly likely'
The Sunday Telegraph ^ | December 10, 2006 | Matthew Moore

Posted on 12/10/2006 3:08:10 AM PST by MadIvan

An attempted terrorist attack in Britain over the Christmas period is "highly likely", the Home Secretary said today.

John Reid said that around 30 conspiracies were under preparation, and the current threat level was "very high indeed".

He told GMTV Sunday that he did not think it an attack was inevitable, but that "the terrorists only have to get through once, as they did on July 7, for us to see the terrible carnage that it causes".

"Our security services have to be successful on every occasion to prevent that happening," he said.

"I try to walk the tightrope between being truthful and honest about the threat to the public but, on the other hand, to say we are doing everything possible to combat it and to try to keep our lifestyle as near as possible to the British way of life."

The Home Secretary added that he thought the battle against Islamic terrorism was likely to last longer than a generation.

Mr Reid's comments echo statements made by last month by Tony Blair and Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, the head of MI5, about the rising threat posed by Muslim fundamentalist terrorists. Mr Blair warned that Britain faced a "long and deep struggle" to defeat al-Qa'eda.

The official terror assessment, posted on the Government's Intelligence website, currently rates the threat as "severe" - the second highest level.

"We ought to be very grateful to the people in the security services who work night and day to try to protect us," Mr Reid said.

"We can never guarantee that we will get 100 per cent success but we do get 100 per cent effort from the security services."

... it is likely they will simply blame such an attack on us for 'pushing' Christmas on those with other 'world views'.

Therefore, we should ban Christmas and all other Christian events to avoid offending our Muslim brothers.

you are correct . The US is on a total suicide mission. We stick up for those who would destroy us in an effort to be PC and global minded. The MSM is stabbing us in the back and ALL our politicians are too busy trying to become rich and powerful to help us survive.

A terrorist attack on Christmas? That will pretty much make every terroris- hiding Mosque in Iraq open for target practice.

No it won't! Islam must be respected and Christianity must be rejected, according to secularists! To them Islam is a religion that must be respected...because if its not Muslims will kill you. While Christians they can attack and destroy because they know they will not defend themselves and turn the other cheek!

But what about a holiday terror attack? I hope the Muslims are sensitive to all cultures during this season.

The prudent shopper has already purchased all the Christmas goodies well ahead of the annual nuttyness.

"It's also likely here in the USA, and the media will blame it on Bush, Iraq, poverty, or find other excuses, then go ahead and give special priviliges to the members of the ideology that perpetrated the attack."

Oh, but we'll be right on top of it. The Congress will commission Baker & Hamilton to head another commission to develop a comprehensive plan listing of all the Islamic grievences that must be alleviated by the US in order to deal with the 'Root Causes of Islamic Terrorism'. Shouldn't take more than six months to begin negotiations to implement Sharia law here in the US.

I have never heard of a Festivus attack. Maybe we should all participate in that.

At least your government is talking explicitly about the threat and enumerating the number of conspiracies they are aware of.

Our government is not.

I have never heard of a Festivus attack.

In my younger years, I had Big Mac Attacks. Is that close?

Nope, Festivus is a made-up holiday from "Seinfeld":

According to Seinfeld, Festivus is celebrated each year on December 23, but many people celebrate it other times, often in early December. Its slogan is "A Festivus for the rest of us!!" An aluminium pole is generally used in lieu of a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration, shedding holiday materialism. Those attending participate in the "Airing of Grievances" in which each person tells each and everyone else all the ways they've disappointed him/her over the past year, and after a Festivus dinner, The "Feats of Strength" are performed. Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household is wrestled to the floor and pinned.

Perhaps ... but it seems to me that every time a date of some significance occurs predictions of a terrorist attack are prevalent. The most recent one I recall was an attack at some point during Ramadan. Before that the anniversary of 9-11, before that the 4th of July ... and so on. Eventually a prediction may come true ... but then again a stopped watch is right twice every 24 hours.

The only silver lining is that maybe it will convince the dumb elites in the UK to kick the barbarians out of the country.

Hey something similar happens here. People leave Mass. for Vermont and NH and pretty soon they've turned their new State into a socialist crapola like the one they left.

This should put a nice damper on Christmas shopping.

It's sad because many if not most small businesses depend on a good Christmas trade to keep them going.

The Muzzies are sly......even the threat of Christmas season terror is enough to keep many shoppers and their children home.

The economic impact is significant.
