HEY, all you Chinese-speakers out there in TV land - Rosie O'Donnell thinks you should get a sense of humor! The Asian-American Journalists Association was fuming after O'Donnell went on "The View" Thursday and said that Danny DeVito's drunk turn on the show days earlier was "international news! In China it was like, 'Ching chong, ching-ching-chong, Danny DeVito!' " In a statement yesterday, the AAJA said, "We consider this a mockery of the Chinese language and, in effect, a perpetration of stereotypes of Asian-Americans as foreigners or second-class citizens. The use of the distorted phrases is insulting to the Chinese and Chinese-Americans, and gives the impression that they are a group that is substandard to English-speaking people." But a rep for O'Donnell said, "She's a comedian in addition to being a talk show co-host. I certainly hope that one day they will be able to grasp her humor."

Maybe Michael Richards rep should have put out a similar press release.
You can take Rosie out of Long Island, but you can't take the racist white trash Long Island out of Rosie.
"I certainly hope that one day they will be able to grasp her humor."
Asians are known to have much higher IQ's; they won't fall for a loud-mouthed broad's ploy of pushing stupidity for humor.
No kidding???????????????
I think she is a hypocrite. She wanted to take guns away from everyone except her body guard.
When is she going to apologise on National Television? She just insulted 1.9 billion people with her "humor".
Oh...she's not funny....on any subject.
I don't think it's as offensive as it is pathetically infantile and older than last year's Christmas fruitcake.
In fact I think I just offended more people than rosie by saying "Christmas" just now.
China can rest content knowing that Americans are likely to be embarassed by this national disaster "Mad Cow rosie" o'donnel for years to come.
Rosie's blunder of ignorance and stupidity is that to be considered "literate" in Puthonguah, one has to be capable of reading and writing about 3000-3500 characters - more to be considered "educated".
In English, we have 26 letters and 10 numbers.
Rosie shi yade, yade, yade.
Phonetically, a See Fut Long...
I wouldn't go that far. She's funny all right. About as funny as a broken collar bone.
Rosie is just a fat pathetic Dyke.
I dont see why any TV show would have her on as a guest ,much less a regular.
She may have been a comedian at one time, she is no longer.
She is about as funny as testicular cancer.
"I certainly hope that one day they will be able to grasp her humor."
WTF. So now Asians/Asian-Americans are humorless AND stupid?
How does the left keep getting away with this...
she is nothing but a vile carpet munching stupid...cee you next tuesday...propped up by the lib/dem media!!!!
See, Rosie is a lezzbean. This immunizes her from any criticism, always makes her the immaculate victim, and means that she, above all, is incapable of being wrong or out-of-line.
Chinese friends tell me knowledge of 5,000 characters is required to be able to read a newspaper, and knowledge of 30,000 or more to be regarded as a scholar.
In other words, IGNORANT MAD COW ALERT!
I have a Chinese buddy who came here from Hong Kong when he was five. He speaks Cantonese with a distinctive American regional accent (I find that amusing without end).
Most of the Asians I know (and I know quite a few), assimilate quite well, and even though they are "foreigners", are definitely not second class citizens. Most of them make good money, and are well respected by their colleagues and peers.
My buddy is more American than he is Chinese. He also has a sense of humor about being Chinese, and I tease him about it all the time (e.g. "Hey, buddy - I'm an Asian too. A Cock-Asian (gesturing to show length in a personal area)"). He just laughs.
While I understand these people's concerns, they need to lighten up. Asians in our society, for the most part, are considered de facto white people. You don't hear libs belly aching about discrimination against them, do you?
That always gets my buddy's under wear in a knot (he has a sort of liberal side, but I forgive him for it) - "Even though I'm a minority, I get no minority benefits. I'm treated just like I'm white when it comes to preferences and hiring." Which is of course as it should be.
Just imagine, if you can, that Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the show's token "conservative", had said this instead of Rosie. The outcry from the media would have been immediate and deafening, and Hasselbeck would have been fired by day's end. If they hadn't pink-slipped her the comments themselves, they sure as hell would have for making this kind of "It was humor, you ignorant foreigners, get over it!" defense.
These liberals are really feeling their oats, aren't they? And 2007 hasn't even started yet.
