Democrats frustrated by Bush's reaction to Iraq report (Bush refuses to surrender!)
The Mercury News ^ | December 8, 2006 | William Douglas and Margaret Talev

Top Democrats in Congress left a White House meeting with President Bush on Friday frustrated over what they perceived as his reluctance to embrace major recommendations from the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

"I just didn't feel there today, the president in his words or his demeanor, that he is going to do anything right away to change things drastically," Senate Majority Leader-elect Harry Reid, D-Nev., said following the Oval Office meeting. "He is tepid in what he talks about doing. Someone has to get the message to this man that there have to be significant changes."

Bush has been cool to some of the report's main recommendations. He's said he won't deal with Iran until it verifiably suspends its nuclear enrichment program and won't sit down with Syria until it stays out of Lebanon's political affairs and prevents the flow of weapons and cash to insurgents in Iraq.

And Bush has stressed many times that U.S. troops will stay in Iraq until they successfully complete their mission.

Maybe this is a hopeful sign that Bush will finally get rid of the stupid "New Tone" and start being the stubborn hard-ass again we all love & cherish.

Stay the course as in don't cut and run and persevere until there is victory, yes.

But, as the poster wrote it, and as the left uses it, it indicates stagnation and lack of progress.

IMO, it's become a catchphrase for the anti-Bush forces, left and right, and no longer means what it was intended to mean when it was first stated.

"He is tepid in what he talks about doing."

Being tepid about ISG tepidity is no vice, Harry.

Apparently Mr. Bush never watched F Troop. We need to retreat our way to victory!

That's the truth, Mo. The left wants defeat, and they're afraid to admit what they're really thinking.

On the other hand, the FR bunch who use the words 'stay the course' against President Bush mostly want to blow the entire country of Iraq to kingdom come, and nothing short will satisfy them......

A GOP Senator scuttled Bolton's UN appointment

A GOP congressman came up with the ISG idea

Good thing the GOP had congress

Here's hoping that:

1) W will ignore key parts of the ISG
2) which will anger Reid and Dems
3) the group members will be interviewed about the pig-head Bush
4) details will emerge from some committee members of the flawed process (although I believe they're sworn to silence, iirc)

It will become evident that several "planks" were included simply to placate one committee member or another
It will become crystal clear why the ISG report is such a worthless mish-mash of crap.

I wish the President would take this further. I wish he would have told the study group he ain't talking to Iran one on one and to forget it as that recommendation is DOA. What the heck does the President and the Republicans have to lose now I ask? What?

Well obviously, we should immediately meet with Iran, Syria and the Palestinians and offer to give away Israel.

Well, that would certainly make Jim ("F#$@ the Jews!") Baker happy...

"I REALLY HOPE GWBUSH SAYS "SURRENDER IS NOT AN OPTION." in his upcomming speech. If he says that word for word, it turns the cut and run democrats into surrender monkeys."

I hope so too! Also hope he says he will give more consideration to what he hears from the troops on the ground than what he hears from those who have not been to Iraq to even see our accoumplishments! I MOSTLY wish that he would announce that Israel and the US troops are already bombing Iran! Just wishing!

But I suspect Dingy Harry is talking about a politically acceptable way to cut and run so we can fight the War on Islamofacism closer to home.

Dingy Harry wants the money we spend on the war in Iraq so he and his liberal friends in Washington DC can use it for entitlement spending to buy more votes. If Sen. Reid were in charge of our military the only funds saved from the War on Terror would be the transportation cost of sending our brave soldiers and equipment to Iraq. He would save us that funding because the fighting will end up right here in our homeland.

It must be frustrating for the democrats and media not to be the president of the United States. Its still an awful reality check for them.

The Iraq Study Group was not elected by the people to conduct foreign policy and defend the United States of America. Harry Reid was elected to represent Nevada and not to guide the foreign policy of the United States. The main stream media needs to be reminded that George W Bush is the president and that he has the authority of the executive branch of government vested to him by the constitution.
