Lauer Implores Gore: 'You Could Be In A Position To Save The Planet!' [Video]
Today Show/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/06/2006 5:51:03 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

In all my years of Today-watching, I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite like the display Matt Lauer put on this morning. In beseeching Al Gore to run for president, Lauer literally portrayed him as the planet's potential savior.

"If you were to run for president, you could take this issue to the next level, even if just during a campaign. And if you were fortunate enough to win the presidency, you would sit in the most powerful office in the free world with a real chance to make . . . " Matt stopped himself at the enormity of the prospect before exclaiming "you could be in a position to save the planet!"

View video here.

So stunning was Lauer's sycophancy that it induced an embarrassed chuckle from Gore himself. Al collected himself and let Matt know that he "appreciate[d] the impulse behind the question," but also stated that he is not planning to run. Matt wouldn't take no for an answer: "but as someone who feels as passionately about the subject as you do, and your documentary is evidence of that, why pass up the opportunity to have that world stage again? Because although you're a former vice-president being a sitting president would give you a much higher and more powerful platform."

Al again thanked Matt for his endorsement: "I appreciate that very much."

Matt gave it one last try at interview's end: "What are the chances that someone reaches out to you, makes a phone call, and gets you to up-end this race?"

Matt Lauer, folks - keeping hope alive.

I am often amazed at how they are more concerned about some melting ice then they are about a nuke bomb going off

If the one of the left is Underdog, does that mean the one on the right is Dog?

Maybe Lauer is wanting to play the role of Lois Lane.

*puke*

I'll bet Matt has a life-sized poster of Gore taped to the ceiling of his bedroom.

Who is Matt Lauer and what is the Today Show?

You know who Tony Snow is right? - The press secretary for the President? Well, for Democrats it works a bit differently. They don't have just one person representing them in the media, they have an extensive network of press secretaries to conduct a number of daily briefings (daily at 6:00 or around tha time on CBS, NBC, ABC). Matt Lauer is one and the Today Show is just what they've nicknamed his daily briefing for the Democrats.
There are other well known folks working for the DNC also, Dan Rather, Katie Couric, Chris Matthews.

It appears that many of the media personalities are delighted to carry the water for Al Gore and other outspoken Eco-Freaks. So much so that contradicting views are all but excluded from the debate. It’s almost like the old Walter Cronkite mantra, “And That’s The Way It Is”.

But, is that really the way it is? I can remember that some years back we were being warned of the impending danger of Global Cooling. At that time we were told that within the next fifty to one hundred years the earth would be covered in sheets of ice if we didn’t cease doing whatever it was we were doing at the time that was causing such irreversible damage to the earth’s ecology. And, no, I wasn’t referring to the “Nuclear Winter” crisis. That was a different dog and pony show altogether.

And now we are faced with what is being labeled as the “Obvious Effects” of Global Warming and mankind’s contribution to the perceived problem. Most in the scientific community are in agreement that the earth’s temperature is rising. However, there are disagreements within that community of the reasons for and the results of the increasing temps. Just how often do you hear these disagreements being debated in a public forum?

One of the more recent developments of our over indulgent use of fossil fuels is said to be an increase in both the frequency and intensity of tropical storms. Oh, really? Here’s a link to over one hundred yeas of data that Climatologist Gore seems to have overlooked. The next time you bump into Accu-Al, just ask him how many Yukons, Expeditions, and Hummers were traveling the nation’s interstates during the 1800’s where the evidence shows that there where periods of activity equal to, or greater than, those we are experiencing today.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastdec.shtml

Rising sea levels will result, for instance, in the nearly complete submersion of Florida by the Atlantic Ocean in the very near future unless we find other means of energy that exclude the use of fossil fuels. The slide in Geologist Gore’s presentation that depicts this scenario is almost identical to an image of changing sea levels that have already occurred over the years that I found at this link. Sorry, Al. You’re all wet!

http://www.homepage.montana.edu/~geol445/hyperglac/eustasy1/highlow.gif

Zoologist Gore points to the altered migratory habits of the earth’s wildlife as evidence of one of the effects of our love for burning fossil fuels in whatever fashion. All life on the planet, including humans and their predecessors, has always found it necessary to alter their migratory paths for any number of reasons including climate changes. How do you suppose this fellow fond himself in this particular location?

http://www.news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/03/0324_050324_mammoth.html
Now, then. Lets examine the documented occurrences of “Ice Ages”. If indeed they occurred, then what do we call the periods of time between them in which the earth warmed to the point that these massive sheets of ice were reduced to natural lakes and gorges? I have no problem with chalking it up to Global Warming, but it wasn’t as a result of Nandy puttering around town in a six thousand pound SUV.

Here’s a clue for Matt & Al. It’s about climatic cycles, Stupid.

You'll all enjoy the American Thinker piece yesterday about a former Thatcher economist who blew the doors off of climatology recently.

"you could be in a position to save the planet!"

..."from the evils of capitalism!"

There, I finished his sentence for him.

EXACTLY!

That is precisely what today's environmentalism exists to accomplish. It is not about clean air or water, it is about the eradication of capitalism, and of course, what the enviro-nuts plan to put in its place.

Thanks to Jim Robinson's staff for facilitating links. With not much time, I simply posted the address to the AmThinker story, and it popped up with the autolink.

New to me, at least, but very handy for many of us.

Matt wouldn't take no for an answer: "but as someone who feels as passionately about the subject as you do, and your documentary is evidence of that, why pass up the opportunity to have that world stage again? Because although you're a former vice-president being a sitting president would give you a much higher and more powerful platform."

Why, Matt? I'll tell you why!

Because it's all a pile of horse crap, Matt! And Algore knows that perfectly well. The only one in the room who believes Algore gives a damn about anything but Algore is you!

Matt is correct that if you accept what Algore says is true, he would be compelled to run for President to Save the World. The fact that he is comfortable not doing so is further proof (as if more was necessary) that Algore is cynically using the Global Warming issue as a vehicle for personal advancement.

So, in his way, Matt Lauer has stumbled into a bit of truth. Completely accidentally, of course.
