New York Bans Trans Fats at Restaurants
AP via Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, December 5, 2006 | JOCELYN NOVECK

New York on Tuesday became the first city in the nation to ban artery-clogging trans fats at restaurants, leading the charge to limit consumption of an ingredient linked to heart disease and used in everything from french fries to pizza dough to pancake mix.

In a city where eating out is a major form of activity _ either for fun or out of hectic necessity _ many New Yorkers were all for the ban, saying that health concerns were more important than fears of Big Brother supervising their stomachs.

Liberals call this progress but call the Patriot Act an assault on Civil Rights. And yes, I know Bloomberg is a Republican. That does not make him a Conservative.

OK... next time I'm in NYC I'll just go to a ..uh.. "protected" restaurant in Little Italy and the food will taste just fine.

There's not a conservative bone in the idiot's body. The only reason he has an "R" behind his name was he knew he couldn't win the demonrat primary, so he switched parties and bought his way to Gracie Mansion.

Living is bad for your health.

Banning trans fat won't change that.

So I guess the Public Health Department has conquered TB, wiped out vermin, removed all lead based paint, made sure all restaurants meet sanitation codes. Vaccinated low income children against measle, mumps, whooping cough and german measles. Made certain that STDs are being reported and treated Have brought AIDs and other communicable diseases under control. Eradicated vectors such as ticks, mosquitos and fleas. And checked all hospitals, schools, nursing homes, daycares and group homes for infection control compliance.

They did that right? I mean they must have if they have time to worry about what grown people decide to eat.

The prohibitionists and drug warriors set the "ban it for your own good" precedent. What will it take to stop this infernal Mommy State?

"Will this apply to Food Network?"

Did you see the "Good Eats" episode by Alton Brown where he made steak tartar? The lawyers bet him up and stole his tartar. He promised not to eat such a dangerous dish. It was funny the way he made fun of such hypocondria.

Why could this silly, stupide law not be overturned in court under equal protection? Any other proprieter selling food, like a supermarket or gas station is not subject to this law?

New Yorkers don't care that their rights are being stripped? We all know McDonalds is fatting and will probably kill you.. but the decision should be left up to the individual, not the government... oh thats right, NYC is a quasi-communist city pushing socialism into the mainstream... New Yorkers hate individualism.
