Are there going to be any running for President?
First it was Virginia’s George Allen, the great white hope, the George on a horse, the governor with a smile, on his way to a White House run, once he got past that frisky re-election campaign.
He was, less than a short year ago, the Hotline’s unknown front-runner, the insider’s best guess, the neocon’s next new best friend.
Now, thanks to a Macaca joke, a ham sandwich joke, a terrible campaign, and some smart moves by senator-elect Jim Webb, he’s toast.
Then there was Rick Santorum. Mr. Conservative. Surely he would at least make a run. Give the hard core a place to be. Just as soon as he got past his Senate re-election campaign in Pennsylvania. The number three Senate Republican and conservative stalwart is as good a friend as conservatives have in the Senate.

Not a chance. Many conservatives believe he forfeited his right to be called human through divorce.
Duncan Hunter is the best one in the race. His only drawback is lack of name recognition.
What do you think of Duncan Hunter?
I don't know if Brownback can win. But he seems to be a man of sound principle and substance.
Sanford's good but is he running? You can hear a lot of good things about them but are they running? And how will they hold up? Keep your eyes on Duncan Hunter because he knows what he's talking about and would be an awesome candidate.
Bush has been an ineffective messenger and has abandoned conservative principles. Just make sure to give Duncan Hunter a chance in the primaries because I think he's what the GOP needs.
Duncan Hunter could be the Phil Crane of 1980, but where is Reagan in 2008? Hunter would be acceptable to me, but would the party feel comfortable with an unknown as the Democrats did in 1976?

Bayh as Pres and Hillary as Veep would be a slam-dunk, but her ego would not allow it. I wonder if that will ever cross her mind if she does fail in 2008 (her only realistic chance to get into the White House).
Whomever gets the Republican nomination, it is essential that he enunciate a cogent, coherent and consistent approach to issues; essential that he display intelligence, integrity and a clear identification with the rooted American population. One can reach out to any and everyone, but not at the expense of the continuity of the American heritage.
Oh, I think VP would cross MRS BILL CLINTON's mind if and only if she thinks it's the only way right now to get back in the White House.
And, as I have said previously, one good thing (from her point of view) about being VP instead of Prez is that she could mostly keep Bubba out of the White House, as she would just work there, not live there with her, ahem, husband.
Interesting tease to your article. Will have to read it later. I have wondered too about the "choices" we are presented with being mostly DC-ites.
I was a an active Dem in 1990 and did not know who Bill Clinton was at this time in the cycle.
For the next few months, what is needed is fairly intense discussion--and the Internet is ideal for this--of a considerable array of ideas, where no program and no individual is sacred. The more that is put on the table, the better opportunity to sort out what is best. Historically, the professional politicians do not end up by leading, but by following trends started by others. Conservatives need to better learn how to play the "game," because the problem with the past 75 years, is that those trends have been started by Leftists in Academia, and not by us.

Good points. However, there have been things like Welfare Reform and private accounts for SS which conservatives have come up with, flat tax/fair tax etc.
Yes, but the only one on which we have really shown the know how to lead was on Welfare Reform, which was the keystone for Gingrich's "Contract With America." Sadly, Newt started to lose his way, soon after, in the fire storm of abuse from the media, and then followed up by some major personal blunders in how he handled personal matters, and the hoopla over those. Basically, he let the Media, long led by those Leftiss in Academia, I referred to earlier, shift his focus from leader to responder.

Well, for me, I've been overwhelmed by the utter ignorance of the people around me. People who do not know who the secretary of state is, who buy into the lie that the US is fighting in Iraq for their oil, who consider the possibility that the US government effected 9/11. Who swoon over the polar bears plight from global warming, who lick the Clinton's dirt. If I could I'd move to a different country - this one is toast.
Must be this way for anti-christ to come and manifest..
