You are right what was the majority party when the Klan was the most populuar? The were DEMOCRATS!!...interesting program on the Reconstruction era on the History Channel a few days ago actually described the KKK as the "terrorist arm of the Democrat party", which literally advertised itself as "The White Man's Party" for awhile......

And the first duty of the president is the national safety from foreign powers
Carter Nixon Clinton were failures in that area

One could point to military victories of the empires of Napoleon, Hitler, etc., and claim superiority...yet Lincoln's destruction of the Constitution by was unsurpassed, regardless of military outcomes of his regime.
BTW, over Thanksgiving, I visited the graves of a few of my ancestors who fought in blue. Their commanders weren't the greatest, placing them in a position exposed on three sides and leading to an 80% casualty rate for their regiment.
Slavery was bad, but that wasn't really so high on Lincoln's mind til it served him. Lincoln's initial response to adversity--ordering one state to attack another--was not only horrific, but rather "anti-union" in itself!

You wrote, "Harding wasn't president during dangerous times like we were in during the Cold War etc etc."
Point taken, but has there ever been a period in American history when there wasn't a threat, either incipient or imminent? Harding's 'Ohio Gang' was, among other things, pilfering monies from Veteran's Affairs and from the Naval Oil Reserves--and those were, by all accounts, tip of the iceberg stuff. It would be hard to measure the longterm damage to national security caused by that kind of rampant corruption.

Then again, note how "Mr. Republican" Taft was so strongly against foreign intervention--in quite stark contrast to the Bush Doctrine.

Now, now there - lets focus.
This is a 'let's trash Jimmy Cahtah' thread, not a 'let's refight the 2nd War of Independence' thread.
I'm certainly not a member of the Abraham Lincoln fan club -- nonetheless, I have to acknowledge that he was single-minded, and stubborn about saving the Federal Union (irrespective of the Constitution). And I also acknowledge that my view-point on America's 2nd War of Independence is a bit 'skewed' - and others with a slightly different (180 degree different) perspective could make reasonable arguments that President Lincoln was a pretty decent President. They'd be wrong -- but I understand where they are coming from.
But anyway you cut it - what's President Carter's claim to fame?
How to weaken the United States and embolden our enemies in 4 short years? Being absent from duty as our Commander-in-Chief? Thank you Mister Carter for this islamic war in which we are embroiled...
On the other hand I suppose he deserves bonus points for getting Reagan elected -- but I'm still placing him on my list as numero uno worst President.

Fillmore was responsible for the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act. Buchanan did nothing while the Civil War loomed.

Lincoln? Are you crazy or a Democrat? Oh, wait that would be an oxymoron. You better just check the history books because Lincoln should never be mentioned in the same breath as Clinton and Carter.

You wrote, 'Quite laughable commentary."
At least what I wrote was intelligible. Have you bothered to read your own writing, lately?
You wrote, "Slavery was bad, but that wasn't really so high on Lincoln's mind til it served him."
Served him how, exactly? I assume you're referring to the timing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which helped to forestall European recognition of the South and possible direct intervention on its behalf. You're saying that was a bad thing?
Slavery was always the central issue, neo-confederate apologia to the contrary.
