A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....12-04-06....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

I am in the L.A. area and, sorry, I don't know if that is a magnet. I just snagged it as a gif.

So, where and when do you convene?

Great work, Bob!

I too have that feeling, and my voice is loath to be so still, so I take it to the corner where our critics know nothing of quiet or respect.

We can be silent no longer! For as our bravest stand on the front lines countering a evil who so fervently wants our destruction, we must stand against the those within who so vociferously back that enemy.

Darn. It would make a great magnet. If you ever see it....

Great! The rally is every Friday night. 6pm to about 7:45 (or whenever the Lefties leave). Then we go out for dinner.
Studio City, SE corner of Ventura Blvd at Laurel Canyon in front of the First Republic Bank. Parking in back of Long's. We have signs and flags, but if you want to bring your own, please do so. The opposition is usually 30+ of the Neighbors For Peace & Justice, and friends. They're fairly benign just standing there singing old hippie protest songs, which is perfect since they are either old hippies, offspring of old hippies, or kids being indoctrinated into the Left. Ed Asner came out for their 4th anniversary. Yick! We definitely need the help as it is only Mac and I now. If you can come we'd love to have you join us! This is one of, if not the oldest rallies in the southland. Hope to see you there!

Take care!

Good evening, Mayor. Thank you again and again for always being here with our weekly tribute to Freepers and their loved ones who serve this great country of ours so selflessly. We are deeply indebted to all who put their own lives in danger for our safety and our freedom.

This is the time of year I would implore all FReepers who post or pass on the Christmas Poem to ensure it is the original version. You've all seen it. The one by a Marine in Okinawa. If the word "soldier" appears anywhere in the poem, it is a bastardized version that is insulting to the author and to all Marines. So please make sure you pass on the original version. It can be found at www.snopes.com

Scared To Death

READ: 1 Corinthians 15:51-58

Our Savior Jesus Christ . . . abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. —2 Timothy 1:10

The opening line of a country song, “Sarabeth is scared to death . . . ,” leads the listener into the fearful heart of a teenage girl who is diagnosed with cancer. The lyrics of  “Skin (Sarabeth)” expose the struggles she faces, not only with the disease and its treatment but also with the obvious evidence of her struggle—the loss of her hair (hence, the title). It is a touching song of triumph in the midst of tragedy, as Sarabeth deals with the understandable life-and-death fears that cancer brings.

The specter of death is faced by every human being. Yet, whether we face that reality with fear or with confidence is not dependent on having a good outlook or a positive attitude. The way we face death depends completely on whether or not we have a personal relationship with Jesus, who gave Himself to die so that death itself could be abolished.

Paul wrote to Timothy that our Savior was the One who “abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10). The result is that even in the most disturbing times of life, we never need to be scared to death.

We can live confidently and filled with hope, because Jesus conquered death. Bill Crowder

Your love, O God, would spare no pain
To conquer death and win;
You sent Your only Son to die
To rescue us from sin.  —M. Gustafson

Because Christ is alive, we need not fear death.

It's the least I can do Billie. The best way to start the week is reminding everyone about our Military Hero's and the struggle they have to face this coming week.

Excellent serving of Our Daily Bread, Rus.
I'll be busy today with Logan playing with his new toys. Now that the countdown to his birthday is complete, we'll start the countdown to Christmas. 21 Days and counting.

Good morning Rus, all... I always have enjoyed reading about Patton & the movie of the same title is one of my favorites. Wouldn't you love to hear how Patton would address the lame stream media? How he would support the troops? I would!!!

Praying for our brave men & women.

Have a great day all. Snowing here in Ohio. ugh!

The National WWI war museum opened this Saturday in K.C., MO.

http://www.libertymemorialmuseum.org/

On December 2, 2006, the National World War I Museum will open the window to an extraordinary emotional and intellectual experience.Envisioned by the people of Kansas City, designed by Ralph Appelbaum, and designated by Congress as the nation’s official WWI Museum, the new state ofthe art complex at Liberty Memorial uses highly-interactive technology to bring history to life, and to foster timely discussions of ethics, values, decision making and conflict resolution.

(I have no idea who wrote that last part, but it is K.C., a democratic/liberal stronghold.)
