(CBS4) BOSTON -- Images of anti-American protests around the globe fill our living rooms almost every night. At Boston University students are filling classrooms trying to better understand how the Muslim world sees us.
"There are 1.4 billion Muslims in the world," said Husain Haggani, a professor at Boston University.
B.U. is one of many schools across the country offering courses to help everyone better understand each other. It has one of the largest programs in the nation.
What are his students here to learn? "Trying to figure out what are the reasons why others hate us. Why does Osama bin Laden feel or think the way he does?" Haggani said.
The International Relations department at B.U. has grown by more than sixty percent over the past ten years, from just over 600 students in 1996 to well over 1,000 today. In fact, it is now the third largest department of its kind in the country.
There is a lot for students to learn. Cultural differences are deep and often confusing.
Last month in Minnesota, six Muslim scholars were removed from a commercial airliner and handcuffed. A passenger was concerned they were praying before the flight.
One student told us she hopes to learn about differences between cultures that lead to misunderstanding. "I think for people our age, just an understanding of why they do this this way, where I do it another way, is really important."
Students in the B.U. program are also focusing on jobs and the global economy.
"I would like to work in the international sector," one student told us. "So being able to have an understanding of people and their cultures, I think that's going to add a leg up."
In this class, getting an A really could help change the world.
Because Freedom is anathema to Muslims.
... and cursing America, and changing seats to cover all of the exits, and getting seat belt extenders when none were fat enough to need them.
**crickets chirping**
PERFECT!...........
I'll take it even further. I think it's actually racist to not take Muslims at their word. It's disrespectful, actually. Whenever a lib starts telling me that we just need to talk with them, I aways ask them to tell me what they believe Muslims want from us in order for them to leave us alone. I ask them where was the note when they flew into the World Trade Center? Of course, there is no answer. For their mission is our total destruction. I believe them...I respect Muslims in that I believe them when they tell me they want me dead.
Libs, on the other hand, seem to think that, after all, they are human, so they should act like we do...isn't that racist, really? - Not to accept them exactly the way they are?
"I would like to work in the international sector," one student told us. "So being able to have an understanding of people and their cultures, I think that's going to add a leg up."
Not a bad idea actually. This would help us produce better spies.
They also happen to have:
1) Made anti-American remarks.
2) Switched seats to ones they were not assigned.
3) Sat by the cockpit and exits where the 9/11 hijackers and other hijackers attempting trial runs sit.
4) Asked for seat belt extensions which they did not need due to their waist size, but which would make excellent garrottes for strangling the crew.
I guess it is insensitive of me to point out these oversights in the "journalist's" fluff piece.
How about a field trip to Sudan?
Perhaps it would be enlightening for Muslims to know what we think of them and why.
I don't really care what he thinks or why; the problem is, he wants us dead.
SAFTEY SCHOOL!
While I'm sure that it is rational to learn about moslim "culture" *cough*, I would be far more impressed if the NEA and American education was teaching the pride and dignity of the values of Western Civilization, and it's many innumerable and unparalleled achievements, rather than turning out students who can only regurgitate the dogma of the socialist teachings that they have been imbued with. Show me students who have HS diplomas who know who wrote this:
""I am very much shocked" and wonder "good God; are the Americans all asleep and tamely giving up their liberties, or are they all turned philosophers, that they don't take immediate vengeance on such miscreants"instead of the tripe that they perceive to know, but in actuality, do not.
The "A" would stand for ass as in dumb ass. This "class" will be a was of time if it does not cover the number one reason why the Islamofascists "hate" us.
We are NOT Muslims. Therefore, we are "infidels" who must be beheaded. "Allah" demands it.
I'll file this one under things that are so stupid, only an "intellectual" can understand it.
Nope, that would be insensitive I am sure.
"Why does Osama bin Laden feel or think the way he does?" Haggani said."
Don't know, but we'll be better off when he stops feeling and thinking.
DHIMMI SCHOOL!!!
I learned all I needed to know about Muslim culture on September 11th, 2001.
