Darn tooin'! I'm here in the Dayton area. I don't smoke. Never have, never will but I voted against this gawd-awful ordnance...(sigh) but then I voted for Ken Blackwell, too.
Actually, the American Cancer Society put forth the petition to put it on the ballot. Ohioans voted on it without totally considering it.

It's all about the element of control, those who seek control (politicians) find the most direct path possible, which sometimes includes others doing their bidding.
No doubt. :-)
I can see it now! On weekends Ohioans (sp) will be going to the borders in Mich, Indiana, Kentucky, W. Vir, and Pennsylvania to grab a few drags.
"Sadley, this is legislation that was enacted by a republican dominated state government."
Acatually it was Ohio prop 5 and was voted on by a majority of Ohioans. As an ex-smoker, I know how awful the habit is, but it is worse for people to legislate what a business owner can allow legally on his own property. Prop 4, which relegated smoking to the dives and late night clubs, seemed the more rational choice. Most of my church friends voted for Prop. 5, so I had to ask them why they cared what went on at bars they never go to anyway. They agreed with me, and then said they wanted smoking banned regardless. Damn, sometimes Savage is right.
You and I did exactly the same thing. I may not like it (smoking), but freedom is another story.
I like your screen name. :-)
LOL!
First get the people to feel comfortable turning in others for smoking. After a while, add a few things. Your neighbor doesn't recycle? Turn him/her in. Turn in your neighbor for receiving gun magazines. Turn in your neighbor for his/her opinion. What? your neighbor doesn't like some of the "modifications" to marriage that liberals like? Turn him/her in. What? Your neighbor doesn't like the fascist direction that the USA is going in? Turn him/her in!
When I call them NicoNazis, I am not kidding!
Ohio, I LOVE that term!!! May I steal it from you, please? LoL.
Please do. Spread it far and wide. ;0)
NE Ohio pings...(from LVD, a non-smoker.)
I'd trade being an Illinois resident for Ohio any day. (I've lived in Ohio my whole life until a few months ago)
Voters here in Ohio forced this crap to be legislated. (I was among the minority that voted against it.)
"I like your screen name. :-)"
And the Muzzies don't. It's win-win!
More govt regulation signs that businesses must post or be fined. We should all get into the sign making biz for the required by law posting of govt regs. There will be more and more like these. Soon you won't be able to see the business for all the required by law regulatory signs.
Oh yea, I'm sure they have already set the size it must be and where it must be placed...like all their other required by law signs for businesses.
WTG Ohio. Nice precedent. It wasn't enough for businesses to be forced to not allow smoking. Now they have to buy your stupid sign. Who's got the contract on that sign? Your brother in law? How much is your kickback Mr.Ms.Mrs.Miss legislator/s?
I can't believe it passed, let alone by such huge margins. I swear some SMOKERS must have voted for it too.
I second those motions!!
