Michigan Mandarin [Mary Sue Coleman, U of M President]
New York Post (Editorial) ^ | November 26, 2006

University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman is offering students an interesting lesson: Never let the law prevail over your own vanity.

Just one day after Michigan voters overwhelmingly passed Proposal 2 - thereby ending racial and gender preferences in the state's public sector, Coleman said she'd do everything possible to avoid incorporating racial equality into her school's admissions policies.

One problem for the intellectual elite with the federal judges in this scenario, though: The US Supreme Court ruled that the school undergrad admissions policy, as currently constituted, is unconstitutional.

One would think that it would be incumbent upon the U of M to at least tweak that policy for its own protection - to discourage future litigation on behalf of white applicants who might be refused admission on racial grounds.

They can probably kick her out for any reason or none, but I doubt that they will.

Her leaving the U of I was Michigan's loss.

I've heard that the pro-affirmative action Dems are in firm control of the U-M Regents, so the best chance of Michigan getting rid of her is if she takes off for the presidency of an Ivy League school (just like her predecessor Bollinger did). Harvard, are you interested?

The next time I rant about the "the Commie/Liberal Univ. of Michigan" I'll try to remember that there are a few good folks from there, such as yourself.

At least Ohio State is not as liberal as Michigan. :)

New development last night:

U of M, MSU, and Wayne State were ordered by the Sixth Circuit to comply immediately with Prop 2!

Will try to post it as a new thread:

There was a Regent about 5 years ago who tried to get this affirmative action stuff reversed. He is no longer a Regent.

Sorry, unable to post the new story: copright complaints by the Detroit News, apparently. You can find it on the home page of today's Detroit News web edition.

Believe it or not, the title is Racial ban back on for 3 colleges. You might think that George Wallace or Ross Barnett had arisen from the dead and imposed segregation again./Sarc
