Dramatic new details of the deadly mayhem include the undercover cop at one point climbing onto the hood of Bell's car - his gun drawn and his police shield around his neck - screaming, "Police! Turn off your car! Let me see your hands!" said sources who talked to some of the cops involved in the shooting.
When Bell then tried to run down the plainclothes officer - twice - the cop began shooting, with some of his 11 bullets piercing the rear window of the man's Nissan Altima, the sources said. -snip-

"Police! Turn off your car! Let me see your hands!"
What part of those words didnt they understand. Follow orders and you stay alive. Pretty simple stuff.
From most accounts, the confusion caused the cops to open fire (one officer fired first)and his car was trying to escape the gunfire.
Very appropo................GOOD one!
I would like to know exactly what happened not that the suspect "tried to run the officers down". Not infrequently, the cops accuse anyone of fleeing in a car to be trying to assault them.
No I don't know it, but the NY Post is a generally pro-cop newspaper. From all I know, and I live in the area, the cops f**ked up. I have friends on the NYPD, so I'll find out soon enough.
>>>last time I checked a 4000 pound rolling piece of metal is considered a deadly weapon when used as a weapon....>>>
Yes, I forgot the sarcasm tag.
>>>But he wasn't armed!!!....
I believe he was armed. His vehicle became a deadly weapon when he used it to run over the police. The perp was using deadly force just as if he had he been using a pick ax instead of the car to attack the police.>>>
Yes, I was being sarcastic.
"Benefield has a sealed record as a juvenile for gun possession and robbery."
whoops! let the cat out of the bag on that one.
I sure feel better about the whole "sealed" thing now.
/sarcasm tag running around screaming
Too much partying.
Yes, I forgot the sarcasm tag.
Only if it's an SUV. They kill people, dontcha know...
So a cop who just got hit by a punk in a car is wrong for defending himself with his weapon? Bell drove his car into the cop, and then repeatedly rammed a police mini-van, and you say the cops are at fault?
Damn, I'm sure glad to have FReepers like you around!
>>He hurried to the front of Bell's Altima, which was parked on the side of nearby Liverpool Street, and jumped in front of it.
That's when the undercover put his right leg up on the hood of the Altima and began screaming that he was a cop, the sources said.
The cop was leaning over the hood of the car to try to see the hands of the people inside and make sure they didn't have any guns, they said. But Bell floored the gas pedal and headed for the cop, the sources said, striking him and badly cutting his knee. <<
After reading the story, I can say with confidence that I would have done exactly what Bell was doing. I would not have believed the guy was a cop and, frankly, would have feared for my life (or at the very least, my health) if I were to stop.
No, cops are supposed to shoot to stop the body, center mass. If one shot is justified, they all are. In this case, the first shot was jsutified.
btttt
(Accepted practice) These run of the mill thugs got in over their heads this time.
Interesting.... This was a gang of dangerous thugs.
The article said one of the men with Bell had a gun. How does that make him unarmed?
Wonder where these guys were when Hillary was gunning her limo over airport security officers? Seems like they handled it pretty well.
