Dramatic new details of the deadly mayhem include the undercover cop at one point climbing onto the hood of Bell's car - his gun drawn and his police shield around his neck - screaming, "Police! Turn off your car! Let me see your hands!" said sources who talked to some of the cops involved in the shooting.
When Bell then tried to run down the plainclothes officer - twice - the cop began shooting, with some of his 11 bullets piercing the rear window of the man's Nissan Altima, the sources said. -snip-

There's a lady dentist here in Texas doing time for running over her cheating husband with a mercedes, they told her it was a deadly weapon!
You are right. If someone did the same to me, and I was NOT up to no good (as these guys appeared to be), then I would be afraid for my life. Too many stories of fake "police" out there. THAT said, the guys all had records, and were no angels. It appears they may have not wanted to be arrested, and hoped they could get away. Not exactly the behavior of innocents (after reading about their backgrounds).

A woman I know was driving through a bad neighborhood at night when a man suddenly leaped onto the hood of her car. She floored it. I don't blame her.

It sounds by all intents and purposes that these guys were two bit thugs, but they lived in NYC and that is not the place to be playing around with people pulling a gun on you. If someone pulled a gun on me, I'd try to run them over too.
***So what if he had a badge? Anyone could have a badge***
So what if he was wearing a uniform? Anyone could have a uniform

The 'seller' attempts to justify himself with a disclaimer (emphasis added):
"This badge does not have a pin on it, and never did. I have five different badges for sale and none of them have pins. I believe that they were never in circulation. They are a cast metal, although what that metal is I do not know."
There's no way I would mistake that for real, and anyone flashing it is asking to eat lead, IMHO.
It does concern me that so many rounds were fired and (to me) it hints of panic and poor training. Every cop should be fully aware of all the good citizens around, as well as himself when he puts a round out the muzzle, and should put out as few as possible.
I haven't heard or read whether the police officers were white or black, or purple or green; assuming all or mostly black, else Moral Exemplar Sharpie would have been apoplectic.
That's a very different scenario from three beefy male ex-cons having a single officer say; "Police! Turn it off and put your hands on the dash!"
"I'm glad to know that strip bars, like donut shops, are assured of police protection 24/7. No doubt they will say they were staking it out. Uh-huh. "
hmmm - perhaps you might want to read the article all the way through.
From the article, last paragraph, page 1(emphasis added):
"According to the sources, two undercovers were at the strip joint as part of the NYPD's new Club Enforcement Initiative. The program was started after the July slaying of 18-year-old Jennifer Moore of New Jersey, who partied at a Chelsea club before being abducted, raped and killed in a Weehawken hotel."
From the article, first paragraph, page 2(emphasis added):
"The undercovers, who usually worked in Manhattan, were on the last night of their two-month Queens job to try to nail the Kalua and other clubs on such violations as drugs and underage prostitution."
Well I drive a 2004 Cadillac CTS with a $2000 rim kit. I can tell you that anyone who obeys the commands of a bunch of gun wielding plain clothes thugs who appear suddenly when your leaving a bar or a strip club in the middle of the night is not longed for this world.
Maybe morons in the suburbs or the "country" follow the commands of anyone who asserts they are a cop, but in the big city that kind of stupidity will result in you being beaten, robbed, or worse.
Cops should be making arrests like this on the street wearing uniforms, and driving squad cars. Period. In of story.
I forget the exact race make up of the five but it was a diverse squad.
This isn't the only article out there on the subject.
What makes the unamed sources version of events "undisputed"? Because they were reported in a newspaper?
OK, should I take your limited version, which removes all the inconvenient fact, over multiple eye-witness accounts?
I trust the papers a lot more than I trust someone with an objective as you appear to.
Look, I am no cop boot-licker (read my post histroy from today alone regarding a different case), but it sure seems to me they got it right in this case, especially because Sharpton is their saying they are wrong.
REMEMBER TAWANA! Sharpton is a racial arsonist and doesn't even care if he lies to forward his racist agenda.
The badge was only to be polite and you're right. Alone, the badge as viewed through a moist windshield wouldn't be 100% convincing under the circumstances. This is where intellect enters into it. The gun aimed at Bell's head should have convinced him to give that badge a second look.
I hope the NYPD did well. Most NYPD cops are good people and go through way more b.s. and danger for way less money than some the small town a-holes one sees patrolling in and around the northeast. BUT, the NYPD doesn't give as much firearms training as they should. I don't like Sharpton and Barron and hope the cops did okay, but don't believe they did.
I know I'm performing 20/20 hindsight but,
1. Why did the guy place himself in front of the car if he thought mopes were in it?
2. Why did the other guy reload w/out assessing the situation?
3. Where was the LT in all of this?
Some things just don't add up. I know I'm not falling into the good little conservative role of backing up the police and condemning the little black thug (and he or his friends probably weren't angels), but there seems to be too many variables.
