Rangel: Men Join The Army Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career”
Stop The ACLU ^ | 26-Nov-06 | John Stephenson

Hot Air has the video:

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

As soon as the Democrats take control they allow people like Rangel to be their mouthpieces and just as quickly find a foot in that mouth. This quote is Rangel's explanation of why he supports the draft. One would think after the Kerry episode these idiots would be more careful in how the word things. I don't know how anyone could interpret Rangel's statement as anything other than a direct insult to those serving in our military. Apparently, Rangel does not believe being in the army is a decent career. Many people in the military do make the choice to join because of a conviction to a patriotic duty. Those are the kind of people I want in our military. If we were to follow Rangel's advice of a draft our military would be full of people that do not want to be there.

Also Reagan joined the Army Reserve in about 1936 and was in from then all the way through the War. Had terrible eyesight which was why he was never sent overseas but did his bit the best way he could.

I take it he's never heard of the late Pat Tillman?

What he has never heard of is that the average educational level of the military exceeds the population as a whole and CERTAINLY exceeds by far those constituents of Charles Rangel. (why else would they vote for such an idiot as Rangel?)

I'm a proud retired AB Ranger.
Dear old Charlie clearly demonstrates one more time that there are black morons in this country.
I am well educated and turned down good opportunities to serve my country.
It is not possible for this idiot to realize that there are people in this world who are willing to do things for others without strings attached. He has the right to run his mouth and show the world how stupid he is because brave men and women have given life and limb to secure this right.
Hey charlie, STFU!!!!!

Chuckie Rangelraghead can kiss my ass. That is not the reason I joined the Army nor the reason I stayed 20 years in the Army. But, then again, as Jon Carry said, I was just dumb and too stupid anyway.

Rangel is trying to reflect his own feelings of inadequacy on those that sign up. What an idiot.

"One of the first that comes to my mind is the ceo of FedEx."

You got that right. And I was the product of and raised by another accomplished military man. He graduated from a military academy, got his masters and PhD from Harvard and became a college president after retiring from a 35 year successful military career. Now that he's retired from his second career, he still accomplishes more in one day than Rangel has accomplished in his 40 year political career. But folks like my dad and Fred Smith are just people who couldn't have "a decent career" like Rangel.

I can't figure out whether to be disgusted, angered or ambivalent to Rangel's remarks. They are so obviously wrong it's almost like hearing someone argue the world is flat. I guess what really puzzles me is how someone so stupid can become a congressman in the first place. It could possibly be because all the really smart folks are actually too busy making this country great.

"If we were to follow Rangel's advice of a draft, our military would be full of people who don't want to be there."-----\
------That of course is EXACTLY what Rangel wants, the state of affairs he fondly wants to see transpire. BUT, he knows that is NOT the state of affairs we have now, so he
pretends it is, and hopes that his intended audience has so little sense of perspective and history that they'll accept his view of things as "the way it is"/The fatal flaw in Rangel's "thinking" is that he wants to create a draft so that he'll have a military full of resentful people who don't want to be there, FIRST, then automatically ANY war, or military adventure would be doomed before it started. He is putting the proverbial cart before the horse: his plan would always involve looking for an unpopular war to commit his disgruntled troops to. It's the definition of perversity, if not unreality. Yet indicative of the classic Left POV.

There was a VERY illuminating article in the Weekly Standard maybe 6-8 weeks ago to the effect that it is ONLY at places like VMI and West Point that one can get anything approaching a classical education regarding the Humanities. There were some actual quotes from classroom discussions of the classic American novel, which were completely amazing as to the level of discourse, and so completely immune from the pretentious fashions which have been virtually defining the English Department faculties of even( or maybe especially) highpriced Ivy League schools for decades now.

<< Rangel: Men Join The Army Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career” >>

Charlie's never gotten over the resentment and America-hatred he felt at being drafted for Korea, that he has pathologically projected ever since and with which he morbidly rationalizes and justifies his lifetime of slavering service to America's and Human Civilization's every socialist enemy.

I just hope the libtards keep talking like this for the next two years.

They've BEEN talking like this for the last six years, and got rewarded with at least two years of leadership in spite of it (or for it). I understand what you mean, but their stupidity has already been rewarded by the electorate (at least, the one that showed up).
