Radical Islam is understandably perceived as the origin of the majority of terrorism today. The average Muslim on the other hand, is perceived as being a group that would never become involved with terrorism. This perception is seriously flawed and fatally dangerous. What is the source that feeds radical Islam? The religious ideation is extrapolated from the Koran itself. Islam's sacred literature is the source, which allows for the terrorist attacks we see today. Islam is thought to be a peaceful religion. Both history and current events prove otherwise.
Islam is very clear about not being friends with Christians even though Allah is the Arabic name for God. However the God of Islam is not the God Christians worship.
Sura "5.51": O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them;
Islam differs sharply with Christianity on cardinal doctrines like the divinity of Christ and the Holy Trinity. The Koran clearly teaches to kill and dismember your enemies and espouses war for the advancement of Islam. Warfare against unbelievers is repeatedly taught in the Koran. Not every Muslim would ascribe to Jihad and secretly plot against the United States. However sources say Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. (5) With a world population of one in five persons being Muslim, and estimates of 15%, which are radical Muslims, and another 15%, which can be swayed to become radical Muslims, the problem should be apparent. With a population of over one billion Muslims the estimates are 150 million radicals currently with an additional 150 million Muslims who can be recruited into the ranks of radical Islam (6)

Forgive me for butting in ... but do not fear and do not let Islamofascism make you depressed!
As I have matured in my Christian faith, if there is one thing I have learned is that evil, and suffering, are inevitable in the world. And we Christians are clearly taught to be joyful in spite of this fact, and go about our lives worshipping God and doing his work anyway.
Do I sometimes fear that my 11-year old son will be forced to fight in WWIV against Islamofascist Nazis? Of course. But overall I am overjoyed to be blessed with children and hopefully, lots of grandchildren. In spite of the problems of today.
And in case you think I'm just an irrepressible optimist, here are some worldly facts that will hopefully validate to you that times are not nearly as bad in the world as they have been before:
* Mutually Assured Desctruction, when both the US and USSR could obliterate each other many times over with tens of thousands of nuclear bombs, was far more dangerous to the world over a 3-decade period from the early 1960s until the early 1990s.
* World War II resulted in the worldwide deaths of 60 million people -- 1/3 of them being Russian. The only countries untouched by that war were in South America.
The world was far more dangerous then than now. Yet people still lived, had children, and went about their business. It is not so bad today! So my kind advice to you is to stop worrying and live joyfully.
And of those billion followers, how many live in countries where any other religion is banned or wiped out ? And, how many are children who are not capable of choice ?
Well, take Indonesia with about 200 million. It's a weird mix. Technically about 89% Muslim. But there are some weird muslim strains there that have combined with sufism and hindu and local ancient religions. About 7% is Christian and the other 4% a stew of traditional regional religions and Hindu etc.
Egypt has coptic population, which has lately come under attack. Places like Jordan, etc. have populations of eastern orthodox, which is a very early form of christianity.
The only country that I know of that has essentially banned other religions is Saudi Arabia, but they are an American ally.
You are so sweet, thank you for taking the time to write all that.
You are a truly generous human being!!
God bless!!

Gritty got it.
This is a global economy. Kill a billion potential customers, and this economy is likely to collapse.
That's the problem. I'm no Biblical scholar, but all that stuff sounds like it came from the Old Testament. The New Testament taught us, on the other hand, to be peaceable. I don't know of any "New Testament" in Islam that teaches comparable things.
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!!!
Christianity and before it Judaism has been blessed by a number of new covenants and reformations. Islam, if anything, is going backward. Not because of Islam, but because of the predominant Arab culture.
review
The problem when dealing with this so-called "religion of peace" is that people don't understand that it is actually the peaceable Muslims who are on shaky theological ground.
Exactly the point we make regularly at The Ponderosa.
If being a devout Christian means following Christ's example, it necessarily follows that a devout Muslim emulates Mohammet's life.
I have yet to receive ANY retort to this, let alone a plausible one.
Would you tell me what you think about a post I made elsewhere. It is post #21 here:

Then again, I'm an infidel who is close to believing that Islam was created by some dude who wanted to boink and/or conquer whomever he wanted and invented a "religion" to rationalize that.
