The man who has called Bush a "devil" and Blair "Hitler's ally" was between six and 20 points ahead in different opinion polls last week, but he is having a tougher campaign than expected. A surprisingly vigorous performance by his only serious challenger -- Manuel Rosales, an unheralded regional governor from Maracaibo -- has exposed damning domestic flaws in the so-called Chavez revolution... As more and more oil money pours into the barrios, tales of violence and corruption have become frighteningly commonplace. Elena Uzcategui, a veteran community activist, described how her husband was murdered in front of her by a gang that spotted his gold chain. "Is Chavez good for the poor?" she asked. "He is good for nobody. He is only good for the thieves." ...Ken Livingstone, the mayor of London, was an intended beneficiary of Chavez's largesse. But the issue became so sensitive for Chavez that a proposed visit to Caracas by Livingstone was embarrassingly scrapped.

OPINION: Most Venezuelans apparently want what is best for Venezuela and they can see that Hugo Chavez is NOT the answer for the future of their country.
How about some nuclear sushi?
Supporters of the Venezuela's opposition leader Manuel Rosales hold a figure of President Hugo Chavez during a campaign rally in Caracas, Venezuela, Venezuela, Saturday, Nov. 25th (ap)
This is encouraging news. Prayers up for the good guys.
ouch! ;)
Today Chavez was in Merida, Venezuela mocking Bush's failure to rid Iraq of what he called a "freedom fighter" Al Sadr. I dont think Chavez is all that impressed with Washington's abilitiy to wage war these days.

He's a dangerous man
If Jimmy Carter gets down there to "oversee" the election, as he has done so many times in the past, we can be sure the vote count gets "cooked" a little, then Jimmy can declare it a "fair" election.
Jimmy has something of a vested interest in seeing to it that the "wrong" person does not get elected. His legacy depends on having the "correct" outcomes.
Chugo will never, EVER get elected out of office. Communists only end up leaving office in a pine box.
Sounds perfect to me.
OPINION: Carter is not (and never was) a friend to America.
If one can't take note of the 'before and after' effects, you're either blind or in a coma.
I don't see how any remotely rational person could not see that he is the source of the problems there. Unless of course, they feel they can vote themselves out of working.
I agree.
I agree to your post 12 too :-)
