I just want to have a thread to discuss House Rep. Duncan Hunter who is going to be one of our GOP nominees. Seems as if a lot of people on FR are complaining about our choices for 2008 when this great man is going to be in the race as well. I just think he needs to get some coverage and wanted to start this thread.
He is the man conservatives should get behind and I think he deserves his own thread to remind us that we do have a great candidate this time if we'd only realize it.

I was very impressed with Duncan Hunter when I saw him on C-Span last week. I'm trying to envision him going against Hillary for the presidency. He certainly is more 'presidential' than a gal like Hillary!
Just what we conservatives need - giving up two years before the election. Is there ANYBODY you would vote for?
If the Dummies' candidate is Clinton the Second, I will vote for anybody the Republicans put up, looking at it as a "anti-Clinton" vote. Then I will get drunk! lol
Thanks. According to some of the stalking harpies here, I'm the antichrist, when in fact all I want is to advance Conservatism. That's not done by electing RATpublicans.
If what you say pans out, it doesn't bode well for US in '08. Blackbird.
When are the likes of you going to learn what "self government" really implies?
Scary thought!
Is this a joke?
Take a look at who the democrats picked for this year's elections. In my district, John Hostetler lost to a Democrat who said during a debate that he would have voted the same way as Hostetler every time, including the votes on the war. The only point of disagreement was minimum wage.
Most of the new Democrats elected were conservatives Hillary/Obama swings the ballot too far to the left.
Three out of the last four presidents were governors.
Anyone recall when each announced his intention to run?
No, but your's and a lot of like-minded responses are to this. It's discouraging so many want to go with the Rudy's, McCain's, etc. while not really looking for the BEST candidate who would be BEST for our country in these dangerous times.
If we predetermine right now that history is against a house candidate winning the presidency, then no. (But we have never had a woman for president either, but we don't allow that bit of history to prevent Hillary's ascension)
But...
If we give him a chance to make his case, then maybe...
In this day and age the only obstacle that may be insurmountable is our preconceived notions and our refusal to abandon them.
Two months is an eternity in politics.
I hope the prayers for your mother and step-father had effect!
Take a look at the writeup on him in Wikipedia and you will see how the Media and other libs will attack the guy.
No doubt. They will attack any GOP candidate. It's the way the candidate is willing to respond. Bush got past his own demons. But how will McCain react? He has a bad temper that can come out pretty loony and Rudy has his numerous affairs, leftist stands on pretty important issues to many conservatives(abortion being murder and not compromising), Newt being an incredibly unpopular Speaker who left in disgrace and hypocrisy with his his actions of cheating and not being able to live up to a decent standard while in office. Those are insurmountable. These accusations against Hunter are gutter politics and will and would be responded to. He is very strong and they would fear that undoubtedly.
He does, doesn't He? :) He is such a SOLID guy... no fluff with him... serious... though. A little bit of Rumsfeld in him... Yeah, I like him :)
though = tough
Before he said he was running for president, I'd never heard of Duncan Hunter. Everything I've heard from/about him since has been great. While it's true that he has little to no "name recognition" at this point, I think that if conservatives can come together on him or any other real conservative canidate, then we can get them recognition. Free Republic is mentioned often on talk radio and even on Fox sometimes. We have more power than we think (even the Ditzy Chits fear us :))
" I unambiguously stated that I would vote for a conservative candidate IF such a person was the nominee of the party.
Just as clearly, I stated that I would NOT vote for a RINO or a liberal. Ever. What part of that was not crystal clear?"
He wouldn't carry California. The three choices as of now are: McCain, Rudy or Romney.
Sanford, Barbour, and Sonny Perdue are not running.
