I just want to have a thread to discuss House Rep. Duncan Hunter who is going to be one of our GOP nominees. Seems as if a lot of people on FR are complaining about our choices for 2008 when this great man is going to be in the race as well. I just think he needs to get some coverage and wanted to start this thread.
He is the man conservatives should get behind and I think he deserves his own thread to remind us that we do have a great candidate this time if we'd only realize it.

President Hillary
I think that the last man to go from the House to the Presidency was James Garfield.
In this media driven presidency there's no way he can be nominated.
I'm afraid the choice is: Rudy, McLame, and Romney. And Romeny's not a real choice. The media will NEVER allow a Mormon to be elected.
So, it's Rudy/McLame.
I can tell you right now, given this choice to face Hillary, I'm gonna take Rudy every time.
Somebody suggested Haley Barbour
That would be great
She needs to have a good challenge and the only one to offer it will be Duncan Hunter. We'd also have a great Vietnam vet with a son who served in Iraq to be able to hit back on these 'chicken hawk' claims and who wants to see Hillary as CIC in these times of war?
Probably true
I could tolerate Rudy but we need a conservative house and senate to offset Rudy's liberal leanings.
I'm still hoping we can have a "Newt" for president.
Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton....
Why do we bother voting.
It's sad you look at it that way. We are now going to give way because of this petty argument? He's got the quality and having the nomination would more than make up for being 'media driven'.
She'd skin Rudy. The issues in his past are tailor-made for the Clintonista slime machine.
Barbour, Sanford or Sonny Perdue. We need a governor, and not Romney.
IF..you want a man who will make decisions in favor of the whole USA--Vote Duncan Hunter.
If you buy the Bulls**T put out by the machine of McCain, Juliani, Romney, or someone else who is tied to "Large Corporate Interests", vote for them.
You make it sound like the choice has already been made - I don't think so.
Newt would have ZERO chance due to his transgressions against his wife and the way in which he went out as Speaker. Not good. You have to look at the whole picture and it's sad some want to say Hunter can't be elected because he's a Rep. McCain would self-destruct with his temper and Rudy can't even win NY against Hillary, let alone making sure we get EVERY vote we'll need in '08(he's for gun control, pro-choice, etc.)
Maybe. But she has her share of "issues" as well. What it's going to take to beat her is a candidate who siphons away enough "Reagan Democrats" to keep her from winning states like Ohio.
And Hunter is in the Reagan mold. He is vocal and how many times on here do we hear about complaints about how Republicans are so spineless and let the media/Demonrats attack with no response??
Newt, IMO, can't do that. Remember him proposing, alongside Hillary, another huge federal spending proposal for medical records? Newt's gone native when it comes to the Beltway, and voters will be utterly crying for a non-Beltway nominee in 2008. We need to look at the current and former GOP governors and see which ones are clean enough and conservative enough to run and win.
Right now he would have my vote.
Agreed that Newt isn't the guy.
I really like Mark Sanford, but fear he would have too huge a hill to climb to match the "star power" Hillary has.
Hate to say it, but if the goal is purely to defeat Hillary, it's going to boil down to Giuliani or McCain.
