Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Colossians 3:17 For centuries, people in many countries have held harvest festivals to celebrate the bounty of the land and the blessings of life. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln established a national holiday in the United States as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father. Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen thinks that most holidays have been corrupted by commercialism, while Thanksgiving Day has retained its intended purpose. He said, This is a very rare day. It is wholly and entirely about gratitude. No matter what others do, we as followers of Christ have the privilege and responsibility to extend the spirit of thankfulness to every day of the year. Paul urged the Colossians to keep growing in Christ while overflowing with thankfulness (Col. 2:6-7). We are to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (3:17). Abraham Lincolns proclamation also declared that all our blessings are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. This is a fitting day to express gratitude to God. And so is tomorrow, and every day that follows.

1) that these Proclamations by our various Congresses and Presidents throughout our years are become milestones in our history, waymarkers declaring "this is what happened here" by how the praises and petitions to God were framed, the listings of blessings given and of requests made; andHow thankful, how overflowing with thanksgiving I am to be an American, to enjoy this heritage! O Praise to God on High, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ the Savior of Mankind, Who Superintends over all the nations, amen!
2) how very Christian these proclamations were - so overtly and naturally overflowing with direct quotes from the Scriptures and the outright Naming of God as He is named within the pages of His Good Book, and how fervent in both declaring and requesting to be declared the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the increase of His Kingdom and Righteousness in our schools, nation, and all the earth.
Here is a sampling:

By the United States in Congress assembled.
A PROCLAMATION.It being the indispensable duty of all nations, not only to offer up their supplications to Almighty God, the giver of all good, for his gracious assistance in the a time of public distress, but also in a solemn and public manner to give him praise for his goodness in general, and especially for great and signal interpositions of his Providence in their behalf; therefore, the United States in Congress assembled, taking into their consideration the many instances of divine goodness to these states, in the course of the important conflict in which they have been so long engaged; and the present happy and promising state of public affairs; and the events of the war in the course of the last year now drawing to a close, particularly the harmony of the public councils, which is so necessary to the success of the public cause; the perfect union and good understanding which has hitherto subsisted between them and their allies, notwithstanding the artful and unwearied attempts of the common enemy to sow dissension between them divide them; the success of the arms of the United States and those of their allies, and the acknowledgment of their independence by another European power, whose friendship and commerce must be of great and lasting advantage to these states; and the success of their arms and those of their allies in different parts do hereby recommend it to the inhabitants of these states in general, to observe, and recommend it to the executives of request the several states to interpose their authority in appointing and requiring commanding the observation of the last Thursday, in the 28 day of November next, as a day of solemn thanksgiving to God for all his mercies: and they do further recommend to all ranks, to testify their gratitude to God for his goodness, by a cheerful obedience to his laws, and by promoting, each in his station, and by his influence, the practice of true and undefiled religion, which is the great foundation of public prosperity and national happiness. Given, &c.
We had roast duck with walnut, apricot and manderin stuffing followed by pumpkin pie and fresh cream.
My duck
Pumpkin Pie, the one we had was the smaller one which I froze from when I made the 2 of them about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
