Every Thursday at the Finest |
1) that these Proclamations by our various Congresses and Presidents throughout our years are become milestones in our history, waymarkers declaring "this is what happened here" by how the praises and petitions to God were framed, the listings of blessings given and of requests made; andHow thankful, how overflowing with thanksgiving I am to be an American, to enjoy this heritage! O Praise to God on High, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ the Savior of Mankind, Who Superintends over all the nations, amen!
2) how very Christian these proclamations were - so overtly and naturally overflowing with direct quotes from the Scriptures and the outright Naming of God as He is named within the pages of His Good Book, and how fervent in both declaring and requesting to be declared the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the increase of His Kingdom and Righteousness in our schools, nation, and all the earth.
Here is a sampling:
1782
By the United States in Congress assembled.
A PROCLAMATION.It being the indispensable duty of all nations, not only to offer up their supplications to Almighty God, the giver of all good, for his gracious assistance in the a time of public distress, but also in a solemn and public manner to give him praise for his goodness in general, and especially for great and signal interpositions of his Providence in their behalf; therefore, the United States in Congress assembled, taking into their consideration the many instances of divine goodness to these states, in the course of the important conflict in which they have been so long engaged; and the present happy and promising state of public affairs; and the events of the war in the course of the last year now drawing to a close, particularly the harmony of the public councils, which is so necessary to the success of the public cause; the perfect union and good understanding which has hitherto subsisted between them and their allies, notwithstanding the artful and unwearied attempts of the common enemy to sow dissension between them divide them; the success of the arms of the United States and those of their allies, and the acknowledgment of their independence by another European power, whose friendship and commerce must be of great and lasting advantage to these states; and the success of their arms and those of their allies in different parts do hereby recommend it to the inhabitants of these states in general, to observe, and recommend it to the executives of request the several states to interpose their authority in appointing and requiring commanding the observation of the last Thursday, in the 28 day of November next, as a day of solemn thanksgiving to God for all his mercies: and they do further recommend to all ranks, to testify their gratitude to God for his goodness, by a cheerful obedience to his laws, and by promoting, each in his station, and by his influence, the practice of true and undefiled religion, which is the great foundation of public prosperity and national happiness. Given, &c.
How beautiful Billie! :)
I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving!
Good Morning all!
Yup had a great Thanksgiving, thank you, and having a great weather day here around the 70's.
We had roast duck with walnut, apricot and manderin stuffing followed by pumpkin pie and fresh cream.
My duck
Pumpkin Pie, the one we had was the smaller one which I froze from when I made the 2 of them about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
I hope you are feeling better

LISTEN TO ODB RADIO: MP3 |
Lord, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You. Psalm 38:9 While appearing on a panel with other bereaved parents, I was surprised at how much I learned by listening. We were there to help a group of chaplains minister to the grieving, but we ended up learning from one another. One mom, who had lost her infant daughter to meningitis, shared a simple truth that touched me. She related that as she tried to work through the huge question of Why? she spoke to her dad about it. He told her that a better question to ask is Who? He explained that she may never know why her daughter was taken so early, but the help she needed most would come from pursuing who God is in this tragic situation. Think of what this means to us in our difficulties. When we face unexpected grief and ask Who? we get this answer: The Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3). When we face a period of weakness, we discover that the Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer (Ps. 18:2). When the ungodliness of this world seems overwhelming, we can know that the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly (Rom. 16:20). When Why, God? is on your heart, ask instead, Who are You, God? Then seek Him in His Word.

& ((((You have a great day too!))))
Hope everybody's Thanksgiving was a really great day!
With lots of turkey and lots of family and friends to enjoy it with!
I had a rough couple of weeks following the election and I want to appologize to those who post the DOSE thread for some of the remarkes I posted on this thread about thier thread a few days ago. they were uncalled for and I was too upset at that time and I shouldn't have posted them.
With that said, I hope the Christmas season and the rest of 2006t will go smoothly.
And 2007 will be fantastic!
The past election, of nothing else, has reminded me of one thing I am grateful for, that is, I live in a country were we have such PEACEFUL means of power transfer as elections, and when the people get tired of those they elected, there is alway the next election. Think about it.
What other country can you do this in?

Good Day After Thanksgiving To All!
We have now had our third "Thanksgiving meal"..with brisket and blackeyed peas added..along with Banana Pudding..
I have had no sleep but am having a wonderful visit with family and all the animals.I plan on a big crash tonight!!
Thank you ,Lord, for all these many blessings and a gorgeous day.
Happy Thanksgiving!
The theme is similar to what I came away with after listening to the Focus on the Family radio broadcast yesterday - I recommend it to all! -
All of us have suffering in our lives;
Not all of us are thankful through it.
May we continually offer up to Him a Sacrifice of Praise, the fruit of lips that bless His Name, amen (Hebrews 13:15).
