Saudi judge punishes raped girl

AL-AWWAMIYA, Saudi Arabia - When the teenager went to the police a few months ago to report she was gang-raped by seven men, she never imagined a judge would punish her - and that she would be sentenced to more lashes than one of her alleged rapists received. The story of the Girl of Qatif, as the alleged rape victim has been called by the media in Saudi Arabia, has triggered a rare debate about the country's legal system, in which judges have wide discretion in punishing a criminal, rules of evidence are shaky and sometimes no defense lawyers are present. The result, critics say, are sentences left to the whim of judges. These include one in which a group of men got heavier sentences for harassing women than the men in the Girl of Qatif rape case or three men who were convicted of raping a boy. In another, a woman was ordered to divorce her husband against her will based on a demand by her relatives. In the case of the Girl of Qatif, she was sentenced to 90 lashes for being alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married - a crime in this strictly segregated country - at the time that she was allegedly attacked and raped by a group of other men. "The big shock came when the judge sentenced me and the man to 90 lashes each," said the woman. The sentence was handed down as part of the rape trial. Lashes are usually spread over several days, dealt around 50 at a time. Judges in the case referred The Associated Press to the Justice Ministry when asked about the sentencing. The ministry said Tuesday that rape could not be proved.

Perhaps they CAN prove she was alone in the car with a man not her husband. That's all I can figure.

Just finished a book called, "The Truth About Muhammed". According to Islamic law, a rape charge requires at least four Muslim men as witnesses to secure a conviction. Without that, the rapist goes free. Not only that but, the woman can be charged with adultery if married. Accordint to the book, 75% of women imprisoned in Pakistan are there for being the VICTIMS of rape.
Another reason to despise the "religion of peace."

Saudia Arabia is a "friend" because it has oil. We need oil. Next question.

"the [Saudi]government bases its legitimacy in governance according to its interpretation of Islamic law (Shari'a). The Basic Law sets out the system of government, rights of citizens, powers, and duties of the state, and provides that the Koran and the Traditions (Sunna) of the Prophet Muhammad serve as the country's constitution."

This is why democracy or any other form of gov't will not change anything in a Islamic country.

It's not the governmental form but their religion. They need a religion-change not a regime-change.

Is there any doubt left that the arabs are savages? That they are barbarians in every respect?

Islam is not a religion, it is a disease, a curse, upon the world.

Somewhat like LIBERALISM I would say.

How many times do we have to hear about stupid muslim laws and practices? By now, every rational person knows that Islam is over a thousand years behind the times and continues to rage in irrational primitivism that they would now force on all the world if we would just roll over and let them do it.

I would bet that there is a number of American men, not Muslims, who would like a system where they rule exclusively and women are just property......read here on freeperland long enough and you run into them......

how many men if told the govt would allow them to have many wives and beat the ones they don't like, take their property, etc would find some rationalization to do it?......

Next question: Women have no rights and can't successfully prosecute gang rape without cooperation from the rapists themselves.

Why aren't the women running away? Why do women report crimes, if they're the ones who are going to get the punishment? Where is amnesty international? Where are the great Yankee hordes and the underground railroad?

If the rape cannot be proved, why was she punished?

If I remember correctly in order for there to be proof of a rape occurence there has to be 4 male witnesses to the rape and they have to testify on her behalf.

Given that scenario it's a wonder she reported it.

Blame FDR and Churchill for permitting these camel jockeys to control such a huge amount of oil. We chose the Ibn Saud clan to be the territory's Corleone family and then some. They were nothing before we elevated them. Arabs have no business controlling the oil supply. And look at how Saudi influence infects this nation at the highest levels.
