Sgt. Hasan Akbar, Muslim American soldier, killed two colleagues and wounded 14 other troops after tossing grenades into tents while soldiers slept at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait on March 23, 2003. He wrote in his diary: "I am going to try and kill as many of them as possible."

Remember him?

The case is still dragging on, though - via Army Times (hat tip: Mike at Kokonut Pundits, whose cousin Maj. Gregory Stone was one of Akbar's victims):

The death sentence for convicted murderer Sgt. Hasan Akbar was approved late last week at Fort Bragg, N.C., by Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, commander if XXVIII Airborne Corps and court martial convening authority in the case. Akbar was sentenced to death in April 2005 by unanimous vote of a military panel for the March 23, 2003, grenade attack that killed Capt. Christopher Seifert and Maj. Gregory Stone....

Couldn't Pres. Bush just give a blanket approval in advance?

As a gesture of goodwill?

What were the death penalty cases that you recall? Were they murders committed by servicemen, what would have been a typical street murder had the killer been a civilian?

I ask because I suspect (hope) that this killer will be treated as something other than a common street thug. I hope that since he attacked other soldiers while we were at war, he will be regarded as a traitor and he will be killed without delay. Is this a possibility?

But given our P.C. culture, he probably has an aide assigned to pick up his soap for him, and serve him his Halal meals while reading verses from the koran.

No. Military prisons or military jails are very harsh, and very regimented. Last person I sent to a military jail spent the first 4 days sitting in a chair (when he wasn't at the chow hall) staring at a blank wall while he "contemplated" why what he did was wrong. He was not allowed to stand up unless he asked and was given permission. He spent the next 45 days like this, all for under aged DUI.

May this puke receive the full Jeffrey Dahmer in prison: head, toilet bowl, repeat.

Wisconsin prison official says Jeffrey Dahmer was attacked and killed in a state prison today. A spokesman says Dahmer had massive head injuries and was pronounced dead en route to a hospital.

He's getting exactly what he deserves! I feel no pity for him...especially being he betrayed his fellow soldiers.

In the WWII era.

Maybe there is some Justice in the world.
After all, his last name is not clinton (or Berger, or Reno, or, well, you get the picture).

The death penalty cases I am most familiar with were murder cases. One was particularly bad involving a slime ball named Matthews. He hung around a library in the big training area in Germany, called (I am going to spell this wrong, but for short we called it Graf) Grafenvere. It is the huge live fire training base in Germany. Been used by even the old German armies of WWII. Anyway, this puke hung around till the library was closing and jumped the lady there. He stabbed and raped her. She was the family member wife of an Army warrant office I believe. She did not come home on time, so the WO went to check on her and found her dead. This puke stabbed her like 50 times or something, of which I think they said anyone of about 15 would have been the fatal blow. He went back to the barracks area of the training area and was all covered in blood. A couple of his puke buddies helped him. They were found guilty of aiding him in his attempts to cover up the case. If I remember right Matthews had an IQ of a frog. Really stupid and uneducated puke. This was back in the 1970s or early 80s. Long time ago. He got the death penalty. Last I knew he had never been put to death. In fact, the 1984 changes to the MCM may have been in regards to his case, the death penalty stuff and he may have been commuted to a life sentence. IF ANYONE EVER DESERVED TO DIE, IT WAS THIS PUKE. I would have gladly pulled the leaver or fired the shot.

I doubt that he will ever be given an express trip to the 72 virgins. He is protected by his name, his skin shade and his ideology.
If this had been a Christian named Johansson he would be dead already.
