AMERICA'S MAYOR SEEKS LARGER EMPIRE (Giuliani as presidential candidate is scary)
NY POST ^ | November 19, 2006 | VOX POPULI (letters to the editors)

Posted on 11/19/2006 5:37:05 AM PST by Liz

****......he won't be able to get conservatives on his presidential bandwagon. He is pro-choice and favors same-sex marriage, gun control and stem-cell research. He has to be able to swing Middle America. Name redacted Bellerose

**** Who is going to run Giuliani's exploratory committee? I understand Bernie Kerik, Russell Harding, Richard Roberts and a list of assorted cons are available from Giuliani's group of yes men. Maybe his driver will be our next attorney general. That's just what our country needs - more scandals. Whitestone

**** Giuliani was a terrible mayor, and has spent all his days promoting himself. Manhattan

**** Giuliani for president? What is happening to the moral high ground of the Republicans? It sounds like they are becoming the more corrupt and morally disgusting bunch of the two parties, yet they want Giuliani to lead the party of moral conviction and family values? Memphis, Tenn.

**** Giuliani as a presidential candidate is a scary concept. Manhattan

Bowden to Eccles: "Think. Please. Don't be a DUmmie."

Hmmm...so if he doesn't agree to support your Left-of-Hillary candidate, he is a DUmmie.

Pretty strange to call a conservative a "DUmmie" because they refuse to support the most liberal candidate in either party.

You almost need a secret decoder ring, JC.

I am upping it. I want 40% after this. That is how we paid killahs role.

You're gonna have to register as a Dim if you want that kind of money. Republicans don't qualify for serious green.

greater than Churchill's in 1940, when Britain was teetering on the edge

Imagine if in 1939, the issues that mattered to voters was whether the candidate did or did not hate gays.

The next President will be concerned with 99.99% issues of foreign affairs and war and peace and what leads from those. History will laugh...and cry...at some of you.

Those of us that lived in NYC- with very rare exception- trust that he may be many things but also the right man for the right time. Even if only because no one else comes close.

I notice you avoided the question so I'll repeat it.

If he can beat Hillary like a rug in New York, then why didn't he defeat her for the Senate race this year?

Obviously, New Yorkers don't care if a senator serves out their term to run for president. And if Rudy could knock her out now, he could still run for president as well the same way she plans to. Since he has no presidential money yet (unlike Hillary), he'd be no worse off to have run against her with his stellar record. To hear you guys tell it, he wouldn't even have to campaign to get the New York vote.

So why didn't he?

"Another Freeper post of Rudy bashing. "

- Yes, my guess is that "Liz" is the pseudonym of a person from the John Birch Society or someone on Hitlery's election team having a little fun by throwing a grenade in among the freepers. I'd put my money on the latter.

Some some Rudy poll-citer brought it up, I glanced at the current poll here at FR:

Free Republic Opinion Poll: AP: Giuliani Takes Steps to Prep for Presidential Bid in 2008! Would you be for or against Rudy Giuliani for president?

Composite Opinion
against 59.4% 914
for 40.6% 624
100.0% 1,538
Member Opinion
against 60.9% 493
for 39.1% 316
100.0% 809
Non-Member Opinion
against 57.8% 421
for 42.2% 308
100.0% 729
Hmm...60% opposed to Rudy. Didn't have to go far to find a poll to contradict all their claims.

"the right man for the right time. Even if only because no one else comes close."

I couldn't have said it better myself. National Defense and Security is far, far more important than his positions on gays and abortion.

Maggie Thatcher was authoritarian, but clearly did not seek power for the sake of power.

I have been a prolific poster in this forum for quite a while and have never been accused of being a liberal until today. I should have known it would be from you.

These anti Rudy threads are a forum for validating the left's hate speech about the "intolerant right". Some communist can go on CNN and accurately state "Just browse Free Republic, you'll find there all homophobes and cross dressing image collectors. Look how they vilified America's mayor,Rudy Giuliani"

Too true Tet. It nauseates me that some FReepers would give them more ammo by sounding like they are more in line with Sharia law, where homosexuality is punishable by death, than Christianity where he is without sin can cast the first stone. They will kill this party with their intolerant hissyfits and guarantee democrat majorities for decades. Sometimes I think they're the DU plants.

I couldn't have said it better myself. National Defense and Security is far, far more important than his positions on gays and abortion.

Did you happen to notice that Republicans, running on defense issues and fear of Democrats, just lost an election to Nancy Pelosi? Harry Reid? Chuck Schumer?

If the terrorists are smart enough not to attack us in the next two years (and I think they are), no one is going to talk that much about national security or defense in '08. Personally, I would not be surprised if the Xlintons have cut a deal with the terrorists already to lull the voters back to sleep. It wouldn't be their first self-serving deal with terrorists.

If national security isn't the issue in '08, liberal Rudy won't have anything to offer, well, except the destruction of the conservative wing of the GOP. Isn't that what you're really telling us?

Creds to SerpentDove for his graphic

A year doesn't seem like "quite a while". But maybe that's just my take.

If you support very very liberal candidates on a conservative forum, you can hardly be surprised if people conclude that you also are a liberal. It's not as though you deny he is very liberal. You and others merely announce that that is irrelevant and that the only course of action is for the conservative party to pick the most liberal candidate in either party. And there can be no delay in the rush for your candidate.

Has someone on this thread advocated killing homosexuals? Even discriminating against them in housing or health care or hiring?

Why do you come here to repeat the lies about conservatives that even the liberal media is generally too timid to say on the air?

Personally, I'm far more afraid of Giuliani than Hitlery

I see that as an example of how some folks when they are the extreme far right or left of the spectrum start to mirror each other. I've seen other posters who start to mirror Al Kaida ...saying they'd rather lose a major American city then have Rudy who believes abortion should be legal who would be tougher then some pro-lifers on national security. The fact that Rudy has a very good shot at winning has pushed some folks on the far social right over the edge.

You live and die by those name-recognition polls, don't you?

Nope.
But I am also mindful that most of the Rasmussen polls for the last elections turned out reasonably accurate.
If Rasmussen says Giuliani is leading in the Republican race, and will beat Hitlery, that is a good start for me.
On the other hand, I am not going to go out there, and take some unknown that nobody's heard of outside their own state, and assume that unknown is going beat your witch Hitlery come 2008.

The rest of the country doesn't care one iota

What "rest of the country" you talking about?
Guiliani has come out on top in polls from as diverse states as South Carolina and Ohio, even amongst conservatives.
If I remember correctly he was in great demand in the just completed elections in BOTH conservative and liberal states to come campaign for candidates.
Soil unless your "rest of the country" is in Iran, you are just blowing smoke.

We'll see how he fares as he actually starts to campaign against candidates who will expose his past and his policy history.

Oh puleeze.
Guiliani has polled well amongst conservatives, even AFTER they have been made aware of his past positions on social issues in the same polls.

That particular scare tactic from you is getting so old.
You got anything better?
