Regarding the media and the war, I found this fascinating post at Dr. Sanity that I thought might interest you. You may have to scroll down a bit. The part to which I refer starts with this quote: "I am continually amazed at the distortion of the media when it comes to reporting this war. Though journalists bristle at accusations that they are biased, one wonders how such deliberate manipulation of information can be thought of as anything else?"

I can't wait until they find out in 2008..that they have overstepped their "mandate" by a whole lot.

&&&&&

I pray that you are right, but when I think of the areas in our country where dems keep getting elected over and over because of their empty promises, I am not hopeful of republicans winning again. Too many people prefer the promise of goodies, even if they never appear - as is the case in so many of our large cities.

What a great link! A prime example of the fecklessness of the media is their refusal to show the Danish cartoons. "Truth to Power", indeed! They do not speak truth to people who will use body-bombs and neck-severing knives.

&&&&&&

From there ---

The media enhance their own moral superiority by their distortions and manage to portray themselves as "brave rebels" who stand up against evil. But the truth is that it is far too risky to stand up against the real evil. Their courage only extends far enough to allow them to criticize people like Tony Blair and George Bush. Why, it would be far too dangerous for them personally to confront the real threat--those who are determined--no matter how much carnage it takes--to destroy the lives of millions in Iraq.

This psychological defense mechanism is referred to as "displacement", and it is the psycholgical basis of Bush Derangement Syndrome, as well as the tendency of many to conveniently blame America (and Britain) and Israel for every problem in the world.

One way you can usually tell that psychological displacement is being used is that the emotion being displaced (e.g., anger or fear) is all out of proportion to the reality of the situation. The purpose of displacement is to avoid having to cope with the actual reality. Instead, by using displacement, an individual is able to still experience his or her anger, but it is directed at a less threatening target than the real cause. In this way, the individual does not have to be responsible for the consequences of his/her anger and feels more safe--even thought that is not the case.

That's great. So the next time he gets chummy with the left from Hillary on down you remember that and come back and explain why he feels the constant need to appease those on the left.

How do yo take out of context what Hannity and others have read on the air. About holding a small child up in the air and then placing "his genitals in one's mouth", I would sure as hell like to know how we are taking that out of context!

I didn't even see it, try to avoid CNN, although have watched and enjoyed Beck's show... Larry King sometimes... I heard it- she asked Wolf Blitzer if he wanted the US to win. Took him a while to say it, then he said it as if it was an afterthought.

Sorry for the delay. I agree with you too. Additionally, we need to nominate conservatives who can lean to the middle instead of moderates who claim they can lean to the right. Our CO conservatives tend to win a whole lot more than our so-called moderates, who some people think will have broader appeal.

I agree but there is more to it. Tom Tancredo is not a wacko nor is he radical. The problem he has is his quotes and comments are not reported in their entirety. The media picks parts clearly designed to inflame and upset the public. He could temper them more, I guess, but they would not be as effective on the stump.

I was in Denver and heard his interview about nuking Mecca. Of course it was in response to the question about what would should do if the US was nuked.

Most likely a huge majority of people would agree with that.

However, there is something about him that annoys. He's just too bombastic. Not statesmanlike. Just my opinion.

How's your day going? Have a wonderful holiday. jan

"Additionally, we need to nominate conservatives who can lean to the middle instead of moderates who claim they can lean to the right."

Very well stated. I think that a very big characteristic that needs to be looked for in candidates is the *very* traditional and conservative virtues of moderation in rhetoric and graciousness in both defeat and victory.

We are branded as "wild-eyed" crazies of the right. Anything that contributes to that image should be off-limits. This does *not* mean compromise in stating policy positions, but just being temperate and controlled in how we do it.

Reagan was the master at this.

Agreed. I don't know about your situation there in SD. I do know the GOP here keeps nominating moderates who lose. The more conservative candidates have done better in the past and I just hope we will change direction and find those people instead of looking for moderates in the mistaken belief they will appeal to more voters.

One here is Bob Schafer. Bob lost out to Pete Coors two years ago for the US Senate race. Pete is really a good guy but no match for Ken Salazar, who went on to win it for the Democrats. Pete had the money and White House blessing, but Bob was a much better candidate, debater, and passionate on his conservative views and positions. I truly believe Bob would have wiped the floor with Salazar had he the chance to debate him.
