Huckabee says campaign laws aid McCain

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday said potential 2008 presidential rival John McCain's campaign finance reforms gives the Republican senator an advantage over other candidates by allowing him to transfer money easily.

"If you're a senator, you can take the money you raise in a Senate campaign and transfer it to a presidential, but you can't take money you raise in a state campaign and transfer that to a federal campaign," Huckabee, a Republican, told The Associated Press in an interview Friday.

"McCain was very smart in creating a system where he could take all of this Senate money that he had and turn it over to his presidential campaign to give him a distinct advantage over anyone else who ran," he said.

Huckabee, who leaves office in January due to term limits, is considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. McCain, from Arizona, announced this week that he was forming a presidential exploratory committee.

A spokesman for McCain's committee said transferring the $1 million remaining from his 2004 re-election bid to a presidential campaign is an option, but denied that was a motivation for McCain's campaign finance legislation.

"That wasn't the intent of the law in any way, shape or form," said spokesman Craig Goldman.

Huckabee's comments came after a discussion he participated in at the Clinton presidential library in downtown Little Rock that focused on the 2006 election.

He has said he won't announce any decision to run until after his term ends in January.

During the forum, Huckabee criticized some campaign finance measures as encouraging independent groups, or so-called 527 groups, which are not subject to conventional campaign finance restrictions and can spend unlimited amounts on election advocacy.

"When you have a system that says you can't give to candidates except this much, but you can give to this independent group in unlimited amounts, guess where the money goes? It goes to the independent entity," he said.

When asked about the strongest ticket the Democrats could offer in 2008, Huckabee mentioned Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., praising her as smart and focused and calling her "a rock star in her own party."

"I think people will underestimate Hillary Clinton at their own peril," Huckabee said.

When asked about the best Republican ticket, Democratic National Committee Vice President Lottie Shackelford mentioned McCain, and then motioned to Huckabee.

"Arkansas has always been so underestimated by so much of the country, so I'd have to say Gov. Huckabee," she said.

The governor responded, "I think McCain would be a wonderful vice president."

I wonder if folks here understand the situation..

1. Islamists have openly declared war against us and are moving against us in any way they can. We on the other hand, are still playing games with handcuffs on - to win the "hearts and minds" of the lunatics.. A losing situation.

2. Our borders are essentially wide open.. ANYONE desiring to enter for any reason - has little to fear.
Once they're in - they've hit the lottery of FREE everything and the right to bitch that it is not enough.
The financial and cultural load they've put on some states - has had a MARKED negative impact on school systems, penal systems, health systems, crime rates, public safety, road safety -- you name it.
Yet - our "politicians" see them as the new "base" of dependent losers who will vote for a "nurturing" leftist government.

3. The North Koreans would love to strike out - even if through weapons they provide to our Islamic enemy.

4. The Iranians are thumbing their nose at the world, while they advertise their desire to hurry the "Death of America"... They currently are the money, leadership and motivation behind Hezbollah in their efforts in Lebanon and around the world.

5. A few banana republic assholes in South America - have teamed with both the Communists and Islamists to pull America's tail...

6. OPEC - a combination of Islamists and banana republic assholes are getting rich and impacting the worldwide economy by manipulation of oil supply or simply being assholes to rattle the world's markets.

7. The U.N. has totally failed it's mission - and has instead become a hotbed of America hating nondemocratic Turd World "nations" who for the most part couldn't survive without the technology, charity or loans provided by the nations whose flags they burn and whose citizens they wish to destroy.

8. We've got a President who led us into a righteous reaction to decades of attacks against our nation or interests -- but then went wobbly. Attempting to "win hearts and minds" before totally defeating the enemy and those who supported them.

9. Here in America, the "enemy within" has turned out to be us. Our press, our politicians and our uninvited illegal aliens. The Democrat party has been far more interested and effective in destroying Republicans, the Constitution and our National Sovereignty that our true enemy.

10. With all that going on -- the Democrats are Contemplating naming Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (D-Fla.)- a Congressionally Impeached Judge as Chairman of the House INTELLIGENCE Committee -- rather than the SENIOR Democrat member of that Committee, because of a cat fight between the Pelosi and Harma..

11. McCain is fighting furiously to convince America VRWC, that he is "their man" for 2008.

Things ARE that bad, folks...

I think that's an excellent assessment of the situation.

I believe I will copy it and send it out on my e-mail list.

And the REALLY bad news is: Soros is a lot smarter than we gave him credit for.

Only an idiot could sell Soros short. You don't get to be one of the richest guys on the planet without having an exceptional (and devious) mind. He's outmaneuvered a number of governments that went head to head with him over maintaining the value of their currency and lost.

I know some of his statements seem bizarre - some I can hardly believe my ears, but maybe he is playing a game with those. Whatever, he should never be discounted or ignored.

The sea green, incorruptible McCain strikes again.

The term, "sea green, incorruptible," comes from Thomas Carlyle's history of the French Revolution. The "sea green incorruptible Robespierre" is the term he applied to Maximilien Robespierre, the leader of the Reign of Terror. "Sea green, incorruptible" seems also an appropriately sarcastic way to refer to McCain. Given what the POS has done to the First Amendment, likening him to Robespierre is also appropriate.

No, no, this just can't be?!? A 'loophole' (McInsane's favorite word) in the CFR, I don't believe it.

Why the honorable senator said this a while back on Imus about the evils of money in politics...

"He [Michael Graham] also mentioned my abridgment of First Amendment rights, i.e. talking about campaign finance reform .. I know that money corrupts .. I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected, that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I'd rather have the clean government."

See! He detests the evils of money and its influence.

Then again, he also hold the Constitution and Bill of Rights in utter contempt.

I'll vote for him when monkeys fly out of my butt

"McCain was very smart in creating a system where he could take all of this Senate money that he had and turn it over to his presidential campaign to give him a distinct advantage over anyone else who ran."

So .. the CFR legislation was for his own personal benefit - I knew there had to be more reasons why I don't trust this POS.

Huckabee would have done the same thing if he could have. He's only jealous that McCain outsmarted him and now has more $$ toward his presidential run.
