WASHINGTON - Cast into the minority by an angry electorate, House Republicans chose Rep. John Boehner (news, bio, voting record) of Ohio on Friday to lead a return to power as quickly as possible. "We're going to earn our way back into the majority," he vowed.

"An angry electorate"
I guess the electorate is always angry?
I would say the electorate was DUPED into voting for dems by a massively left leaning MSM.

The best way to start would be to say we are going to look into the budget for some serious cuts to wasteful spending

Am I the only one here disappointed that Pence didn't take this post? It wasn't even close....

I think the re-election of Trent Lott to the leadership indicates the elected republicans have learned nothing.

Basically, the minority party in the house can do nothing, except whine about the majority.
To: Heman11
Yup. Trent and Boehner. Same as it ever was.

Seems like the same mindset that ran Dole for President -- good ol' boys given the power spots, even though they may not be effective.

I'll second that...about Pence. Boehner may be a good guy, but this smacks of being tone-deaf. We need new leadership, so what do we do? Elect the same leadership.

Tis the only conclusion any reasonable person can come to. Back to "back room" deals with Little Tommy's successor.

That's right, the protection of incumbency. My theory is that we need to retool the primary system. I would like to see the house and senate walk their candidates to the gate, kiss them on the cheek, pat them on the ass and say good luck; that's it. No help from the senatorial election committee during the primaries. You're on your own! Save the help for the general election... I'm telling you that the reason Dewine lost in the general, was that Ohioan conservative voters felt helpless to the point that 6 years of Brown would be worth it to get rid of that RINO.

Am I the only one here disappointed that Pence didn't take this post?I am. Or at least I was. I no longer care. And Boner's little buddy Blunt as Whip? I was trying to stay positive, hoping the Repubs would learn something and come back stronger than ever but they've learned NOTHING. F#$k them and the horse they rode in on.

I would disagree. While Lott and Boehner may not be my first choice the facts are that Lott served as majority leader for about 6 years and held our majorities(not including when we got Jefford-ed). Boehner is not a bad pick, sensible and knows how to win. Give him a chance.
To: SuperGater
I agree on both men. Boehner will now get a chance without Hastert as the Speaker to prove to the naysayers on here that he was the man for the job IMHO. Boehner was part of drawing up the Contract with America with Newt.

I hope Mitch McConnell is still as good as he used to be. Lott better do a good job. I wouldn't cross Mitch.
