ON SATURDAY, IT BEGAN.
I was sitting at a table in my favorite cigar bar, drinking a Duckhorn pinot noir, and enjoying a Bolivar cigar that was part of my recent haul at Cigar Aficionado's Big Smoke evening. The house band had just started up. Life was good.
And then she walked in. The Woman with the Dirty Looks.
Apparently, she'd missed the sign outside that identified the establishment as the "Havana Cigar Company." And the walk-in humidor with its hundreds of cigars. And the counter, where cigarettes, lighters and all manner of cigar

(Another snip from the article)First the smoke-banners have to finish what they started. Buffy Martin, the lobbyist for the American Cancer Society, told the Las Vegas Sun that banning smoking in casinos and in bars that find ways around the ban is "absolutely" on the horizon. Why?
"We have a duty to protect every single worker in this state," she told the paper. "I do think Nevada will become 100 percent smoke free in the future."
I think we should take people like Martin at her word: She won't rest until the last cigarette is pried from the lips of the last smoker in the last bar in this town. All for their own good, of course.
Listen, I'm under no illusions....
But I would rather run headlong into the icy embrace of the Grim Reaper than live a week in a world controlled by people who write laws for my own good. Because such people are more dangerous than a truck full of cigarettes.
...I asked manager Michael Hackett why I shouldn't be allowed to smoke in a bar. Children aren't allowed there. People who choose to show up there know what they'll find. What's the harm?
He had no answer. But that's because the real answer is that people like Martin and Hackett think they know better what's good for you than you do.

That's a good article. As much as I can't stand smoking why the hell would someone sit in an establishment that is designed for SMOKING?
This is a perfect example of some chick walking around with her giant "Offend Me" bubble.

Because no one has learned the lesson when Carrie Nation's folly was carried to a national level?

Is the lovely lady going to insist on a sun shield over the entire state to protect it's citizens from skin cancer too.
There is no end to the meddling.

The smoke Nazis are going for the jugular now. Vegas? No Smoking?
Next thing you know they will outlaw gambling because, well, it's for my own good. Wouldn't want me to lose MY money.
I am so sick of this socialist crap I could puke!

Nevada needs to move to a drug free state and then move to the no smoking issue. See if they have any success with that.

Some sources indicate that her mother went through periods where she had delusions of being Queen Victoria, and that young Carrie was often tended to in the slave quarters as a result.

I quit smoking 4 years ago due to a disabling heart attack, but I will support a smoker to the bitter end...
I do not believe that a certain group of snob nosed idiots running around this country because they have nothing better to do, can tell a select group how to live....
These tight mouthed, snob nosed idiots are the same ones that banned sex from the front-room, the kitchen, the bathroom...so you know what your dealing with...
There isn't a one of the tight lipped females that have a set of kahunas amongst them that have the guts to stand up face to face, eyeball to eyeball to any one and tell them to quit smoking or to stop having sex....if they did, we wouldn't have these stupid laws going into effect....
Oh and another thing, I don't believe for a minute the rat crap that comes out of their mouths about your health insurance, hospital insurance, etc....we're financing illegals aren't we???? So send them back so we can cover the smokers needs....
Yes, by the way, I'm running for POTUS....;)

This guy has a great way with words.I liked the way he concluded the article (cuss words and all).
"We have a duty to protect every single worker in this state. I do think Nevada will become 100 percent smoke free in the future." [said Buffy Martin, the lobbyist for the American Cancer Society]
I think we should take people like Martin at her word: She won't rest until the last cigarette is pried from the lips of the last smoker in the last bar in this town. All for their own good, of course.
Well, f___ that.
And to all the women (and men) with the dirty looks, a simple message: F___ you, too.
