Let Them Eat Bullets

INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

Posted 11/16/2006

Foreign Affairs:

A nation that's defended Europe from aggression in the 60 years since World War II is asking why Iraq can't defend itself. The fact is, Iraqis risk their lives for their country every day.

Clearly the days when Democrats warned of a long twilight struggle and pledged to pay any price and bear any burden to ensure the success and survival of liberty are over, judging from remarks by Carl Levin, incoming chairman of the Senate Armed Service Committee.

"We cannot save the Iraqis from themselves," Levin opined Wednesday at a Capitol Hill press conference. "The only way for Iraqi leaders to squarely face that reality is for President Bush to tell them that the United States will begin a phased redeployment of our forces within four to six months."

"We cannot be their security blanket," he added. But why not, if it's in our best long-term security interest?

Yes, we should demand more of the Iraqis. But those who ask whether we can or should stop Iraqis from killing themselves forget that we're in this to stop others from killing us and using Iraq as a base camp from which to do it.

We've been Europe's security blanket for six decades. We are Japan's security blanket. We are South Korea's. It's been said that were it not for us, the French would be speaking German and the Germans would be speaking Russian. In 1938, the West decided it couldn't be Czechoslovakia's security blanket and sold out that country in Munich, Germany. The rest, as they say, is history.

"Phased redeployment" is a code word for retreat,....

OMG this article is so to the point. Thanks Europe...for nothing... Maybe our cynasism will win the day and the next Hitler (Ahmadmanjihad) will be successful in his quest for European domination... Anyway I guess at that point the Liberals will quietly sulk away and leave it to real fighting men to come to their rescue once again... However, the way they have treated our real Hero when he took action makes one wonder if another hero will rise to the call in the future...

Rumsfeld was right. If this war is lost it will be in Washington D.C. and in America's newsrooms. It is not the cost of the war that puts it in doubt. It's the will of the American people. This war is the test. Al Queda has made a stand in Iraq. If we leave they will move to Europe and then North America.

It took me 50 years of hearing the phrase "those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it" before the meaning clicked. This time it will be televised.

Note: Allowing the Democrats to control the conversation is what got us in this pickle in the first place. In other words when Levin spouts his garbage the GOP should be out front saying well look we provided a security blanket in Europe for 60 years by basing and in Korea to this day in the DMZ... Shouldn't we bring all the troops home? Why just from Iraq?

Excellent piece, they nailed it.

The saddest thing about Carl Levin is that many Dems agree with him. Hopefully there are enough that don't that will prevent a withdrawal of funding and a repeat of history.

OK I am emailing this article to every Senator, Congressman, News Reporter that I can find an email for; with the following comment tagged on:

Sir,

Today I came across this article that absolutely, describes the current analysis of foreign affairs today. If We The People allow America to retreat from her responsiblities simply because some members of our governmnent lack perserverance and conviction in their decisions then I am afraid we are doomed. Leading politicians in America have called the front of Iraq a mistake in this War on Terror.

Today I reflect on the lessons of 911 and thankfully I do not read about the 50,000 U.S. citizens that were killed in Times Square on New Years Eve 2005 or some other such terrorist act which makes 911 pale in comparison. Terrorist acts sponsored and supplied by Saddam Hussein. Why? Because we have a President of conviction that knows what America's responsibility is in this world.

Please republish the attached article as you see fit.

Nice point Sender.

I don't even know if those countries have enough Nationalism left in them to defend itself. Thats what happens when you become a European Union.

I certainly don't agree with the Democraps cut and run strategy in Iraq, however here's the problem. On Nov 7'th the Democraps won the day pretty convincingly, and there seems to be a concensus that the situation in Iraq had as much to do with the Republican crash and burn as any other issue,so it shouldn't be a big surprise that the D'craps who wanted to exit stage left in Iraq even before the elections wouldn't push for withdrawal now they believe they've got a mandate from the country to do so !!!

If the dems think this eletion was all about cut-and-running from Iraq, they're wrong.

It don't matter what they think now. They won. It is over.

The voters taught President Bush and the Republicans a lesson.

Come January the Democrats will be calling the tunes.

The dems like Pelosi, Levin, and Murtha are overplaying their hand, they always do. The election was about corruption, pork, and lack of Congressional Republican leadership, not Iraq withdrawal.Otherwise Murtha would not have lost today.
