Brit Hume and the Fox All Stars are talking about John McCain. Hume led into the segment by mentioning that McCain has problems with conservatives, and to "give you an idea" of the challenge he faces, put the current FR poll up on the screen.
It was great. If you missed it watch the replay at midnight EST. Turn it on in the last 20 minutes and you'll catch it.
Can someone capture this to the internet so others can see it?
I would vote here against McCain all day long if it was allowed and would keep McCain from even running for the nomination. If it wasn't already clear, I hate John McCain. I don't know why other than his ties to Kerry, a deep suspicion his POW years weren't heroic, a story that he shredded pics of POW's in the 90's with Kerry, that McCain/Fiengold (hope I got the spelling right) thing, a few odd comments here and there. But, I am new to this forum and after siding with Democrats on domestic issues for 12 years I am finally starting to come back to the light. So if anyone could give me a clue why McCain is so bad and so hated I would appreciate it.
First, I must acknowledge I was completely wrong on the election just passed and may, therefore be completely out of touch with current reality.
Still I have my opinions so here they are.
McCain has been a backstabbing, self serving opportunist who had a great deal to do with our recent losses. That being said, I will vote in 08 and if he is the choice versus Shrillary (don't think she gets nominated btw) he gets my vote and fervent prayers for a brief interlude of sanity on his part.
It seems the current prospects fall into groups who either (a) have almost no chance in the primaries, but could get elected, or (b) might win the primary but can't get elected.
Those in group (b) should be taken off the table, no matter how attractive. The prime example of this group is Newt, whom I believe to be a terrific and articulate conservative. He would be killed in the general election, even by Hillary, IMO.
Romney, I don't think he gets past a big section of the base. McCain would stun me if he survives the primaries. Unless some of the others increase name recognition exponentially between now and then. I'm guessing Guiliani becomes the nominee.
I'm also guessing he could win.
Either way, whether my ideal candidate is nominated or not, I will vote and I will vote Republican.
As a so-called "evangelical Christian" I would rather vote for one who has at least some of the values I consider critical than pout in protest thereby objectively voting for one whom I believe to represent the worst of all possibilities.
Evil has advanced incrementally, we will have to march back in the same fashion.
In this last election, despite some problems, I voted for every Republican on the list. I couldn't in conscience do otherwise.
But if, God forbid, it comes down to hillary and McCain in the November 2000 election, I honestly don't think I could vote for either one of them.
Hillary is even worse than bill clinton, and clinton was tied with Jimmy Carter as the worst president in history.
But McCain is a bloody madman. He simply couldl not be trusted in the White House. The thought of having his finger on the nuclear football gives me the shivers. I'd rather vote for Tony Soprano.
I don't want anyone...anywhere...anytime....getting the idea that I will ever cast a vote for POS McCain.
As a third party candidate, McCain would take more votes away from the Democrat candidate than the Republican.
McCain is a genuine "knothead". Anybody but him.
There are a lot of reasons...you named a few.
Plus his formation of the Gang of 14 in the Senate..and his fighting President Bush about the "torture bill"...which just made it look like Bush pushed for torture (even though a lot of us, really don't care if the terrorists are tortured or not)...
He has traveled with Hillary...and come out against "global warming"....
Basically, for ME he is a false Republican..and what he did to treat the families of the POWs and MIA from Vietnam was unforgiveable..and then in 2004...he bad mouthed the Swift Boat Vets..without even reading their book, or talking to any of them.
I am sure there are others on this site that have reasons other than mine.
Also..he is NOT strong on immigration.
Yeppers.
Wonder what Brit's FReeper name is?
Ping
I saw it - it was GRRRRRRRRReeaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt!
Even if it's McLame I got to go with him over ClintonII.
McCain is the media darling.
"If" he's the nominee. It's a big if.
I personally don't believe he will be the nominee if we have a deep bench of GOOD Conservatives from which to draw from.
I think fox has moved Brit's replay to 3AM east, midnight Pacific.
Keep supporting RATpublicans, stay in the minority. It don't get no simpler than that. Blackbird.
I will simply treat it as Local politics, and skip the unpresidential part. There is no-way I will ever vote for McCaain. The socalled "power brokers" had better understand that now.
That would disappear the instant it became him against Hillary. It would also come as a shock to him. He's one of those Republicans who never seems to get certain things, like the naked partisanship of the media on behalf of Dems.
