British intelligence officials believe that al-Qaida is determined to attack the UK with a nuclear weapon, it emerged yesterday. The announcement, from an officially organised Foreign Office counter-terrorism briefing for the media, was the latest in a series of bleak assessments by senior officials and ministers about the terrorist threat facing Britain.
UK officials have detected "an awful lot of chatter" on jihadi websites expressing the desire to acquire chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons....
The warning comes after a speech last week by the foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, on the terrorist threat facing the UK, and a rare public outing for Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, the head of MI5, who warned that there were at least 30 active plots to attack Britain.
With new counter-terrorism measures to be unveiled in tomorrow's Queen's speech, the weekend saw Gordon Brown back an extension to the time for which terrorism suspects can be held without charge, beyond the current 28 days....
For al-Qaida and jihadis, a devastating nuclear attack on Britain, not just the use of a "dirty bomb', would be part of the desire and agenda to cripple the west, sources said....
The network of the rogue Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, which is feared to have sold nuclear technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea, was broken up three years ago, but there are fears that other illegal networks may exist.
British counter terrorism officials believe plots they have thwarted and plots they claim are being hatched have strong links to Pakistan. They say hundreds of Britons travelled in the past year to Pakistan for terrorism activity, including training in camps and acting as couriers for messages. Officials also believe Britons are taking cash to terrorists in Pakistan.

Tell me about it it has to happen now, I can`t believe Repubs like Giuliani, McCain and the rest are now just doing this "exploratory committee" stuff when the election is just around the corner, and Hellary is all over working the press everyday. Look at her grilling Gen. John Abizaid the other day like she is Supreme commander, this is unreal.

Why bomb great Britain? To destabilize it. Great Britain has nukes. If they can cause the government to collapse, they take a big player out. Britain can then be neutralized while France is converted to Islam. Read up on France. They have been battling muslims for a year now in their own country, with no end in sight. Their Police can no longer stop them from rioting. When the French muslims finaly prevail they will have a nuke arsenal. When Britain flounders and France finaly falls, all the French nukes under their control will be pointed at the US. We are the end game. Destroying France and Great Britain is the easiest route to the complete destruction of the US.
These Muslims are thinking 10 to 20 years ahead. We may take out Iran tomorrow, but that will not end it.

Some of these kids are 4 and 5 years old, and many things kids learn at that age become permanent beliefs the rest of their lives
They will grow up and have even greater capabilities to impose their radicalism on the rest of the world.

Okay who needs Teheran? What's one city between friends especially considering 911. But finding those nuke sites is going to be tougher. They learned from the Israeli attack on Iraq in 1980. The installations are well spread out, hardened and hidden. Can't nuke the country, especially if we want the oil and we do.

Sorry Jeff. You are assuming that the sheep will somehow transform themselves into sheepdogs. I don't think so. The sheep will simply sit still, shaking in terror and they will bleat....Worse, they will do everything in their power to stop the rest of us sheepdogs from responding in the proper manner. They are what they are.
I do believe IIRC that is the Isiah 15 prophesy. I'll bet that Israel gets there before we do. In either case I think the world is already well into the countdown mode for this one.
If we imposed an embargo on the ME, we'd have no choice but to lift our drilling bans in Alaska and offshore of the continental U.S.

Unless Repubs come up with some super hero, some guy that can debate and speak his ass off, she will absolutely destroy anyone running against her.
Condi Rice could pound Hillary into sand any day of the week and twice on Sunday. But who to run as the VP? I'd like for somebody like Tom Tancredo or Ron Paul. But it's not realistic. Certainly not Rudy or McLame or Mitt or any of the RINOs currently forming exploratory groups.
But this raises a good question: What do we as patriotic conservatives...the bedrock of the Republican Party....DO...if it's Hillary against the worst gun grabbing pro-choice RINO of our nightmares? Do we cut our own throats and vote in the RINO? Do we sit on our hands and wait for Hillary to come for us? Amusing thought, that. Do we vote third party and get Hillary anyway?
