Lott will merely be a minority whip. The whip is a vote counter, nothing more. Relax everybody.

"I agree with Jonah Goldberg. The GOP has an image problem. The last thing we should be doing is making someone best known for complimenting Strom Thurmond in a leadership position."

Yes, let's let the DNC owned and operated media call all the shots.

That charge is bogus -- and the least of Lott's problems.

I have only skimmed the thread, but it seems to have escaped everyone's notice that Mitch McConnell was elected to HEAD the Senate GOP UNANIMOUSLY.

Anybody who thinks McConnell isn't conservative enough isn't paying attention.

But who cares about such a minor detail? There's bashing to be done!

Trent Lott was a "behind the scenes" coordinator of the Gang of 14....

I remember it well. BTW, if you want to raise your blood pressure, C-Span 2 has Armed Services Cmte hearings. Right now, Levin is giving his little speech.

Still, during his more than 30 years in Congress, Lott said he has learned something about how to keep the likes of Coburn from stopping his pet projects from becoming law. "The way I do it is, I fold them into bills where you can't find it," Lott said. "I've been around here long enough to know how to bury it."

IMO, Senator Lott is a common criminal and should be in jail, not in the United States Senate.

It doesn't appear that they are.

May not do any good, but I think Frist, Rove, Snow, Lott, McConnell, RNC and congresscritters ought to get bombarded w calls and email from us letting them know we are not happy w the way they dealt w the election, communications (or lack thereof), pork, immigration, etc. and they need to turn the ship around now! Lott and the others better get onboard and on the offense. We want Pence and Shadegg as leaders in the House and we want someone besides Martinez as head of the RNC. We want and expect to get fresh, new faces out and about, not the same old song (or no song at all against the Dims and media lies and spin) and we want it NOW. They should have learned a lesson from the election and better get on the conservative bandwagon. /rant off

to carry the water for GOP moderates like Lott doesn't mean the rest of us should play along.

Oh, cool. Does this mean I'm officially OFF the "Moderates" list here at FR?

:-)

What else can you post about this subject? Corruption was the lead concern of voters - and BOTH parties apparently failed to get the message, given their leadership choices made this week.

The Dems were already giving the GOP a golden opportunity to gain over concern about pork and corruption - but the GOP would rather have their diminished share of such, apparently, than look ahead towards winning in 2008.

Rather, I think most losses were due to the "six-year-itch" and to highly individual situations in many races.

I think it was two things.

First, the GOP gave a large portion of the electorate a reason to vote against it (Iraq).

Second, the GOP provided no compelling reason for anyone to vote for it. Traditionally those reasons would be things like limited government, lower taxes, less spending, etc. The best they could muster was "we're not as bad as the Dems", which is a pathetic strategy.

And do you really believe Lott represents limited government, lower taxes or less spending? That's why people are angry.

I think Lott will be an improvement over BILL FRIST and his lousy comb over. I blame Frist for a lot of the problems senate candidates had.

This really isn't all about you and your "insurance issues" on the coast. This is another mini-disaster amongst a week of disasters that is totally tearing the party apart.

It's much bigger than the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

If it's Mitch is leader I can stomach Trent as No. 2.

The problem is Lott will now be he "face" of the GOP because all the networks/cables will be hoping he'll make another foolish remark.

You made a stupid post accusing Lott of not able to remove Clinton from office when it was impossible for him to get 67 votes to do so in the Senate.

stupid party for a reason.

Trent Lott now has an opportunity to show that he has bigger testicles than a clinton.

The only good i can say about this is Mississippi revenge. (see "who wants to live in Mississippi?")

There are other anti-depression brands to calm you down beside Prozac, you may try them as well. Consult with your doctor as soon as possible.

Take your baiting elsewhere. I'm not going to play along so you can hit the abuse button.

...............I am also thrilled because for those that live on the gulf coast we might have some movement on this Insurance issues we face and come up with a future solution to this problem...................

Maybe, but this wimpy little pussy didn't even know that his homeowners insurance didn't cover flood damage, so he lost his Pascagoula waterfront house and all his belongings.

Then to try to bail his sorry ass out, he's suing his homeowner's carrier.

Face it ,you're screwed!
