Stars & Stripes: What GIs need to know about Kosovo
Stars & Stripes ^ | November 12, 2006 | Stella Jatras

Posted on 11/14/2006 6:46:18 PM PST by Bokababe

The Nov. 6 article “Training helps Guardsmen get Kosovo-savvy” deserves a response.

The Stars and Stripes reporter states that ethnic Albanians in Kosovo make up 90 percent of the population. Actually, a more precise number is 97 percent. It is also necessary for your readers to understand just how the Kosovo (Muslim) Albanians became the majority — considering the Christian Serbs were once the majority until hundreds of thousands of them were either ethnically cleansed or killed by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi troops, followed by the communist Josip Broz Tito, who, in his hatred for the Christian Orthodox Serbs, encouraged Albanians to cross illegally into Kosovo.

While training for the situation as it exists today is important, we too often send our young men and women into these foreign countries to do impossible tasks without a clear understanding of the cultural and historical background of the region. What the Wailing Wall is to the Jews, what the Vatican is to the Roman Catholics, and what Mecca is to Muslims, Kosovo is to the Serbs. It is their Jerusalem. It is their heart and soul.

While under the watchful eye of NATO’s Kosovo Forces since 1999, more than 150 Serbian Orthodox churches and monasteries have been destroyed or desecrated and dozens of new mosques have been built — including the Osama bin Laden mosque that now stands on Serbian soil. Is this why peacekeepers are in Kosovo? To protect mosques named after the prime terrorist who has vowed to destroy our country?

Following are facts of importance that should not be ignored:

We have known as far back as 1999 the terrorist connections of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) when The Washington Times reported that “some members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, which has financed its war efforts through the sale of heroin, were trained in terrorist camps run by international fugitive Osama bin Laden."

In 2004, a report by National Review stated: “A pogrom started in Europe on Wednesday. A U.N. official is quoted as saying that ‘Kristallnacht is under way in Kosovo.’ Serbs are being murdered and their 800-year-old churches are aflame. Much of the Christian heritage in Kosovo and Metohija is on fire and could be lost forever. By these deeds too many of Kosovo’s Albanians have shown that all the speeches about democracy and multi-ethnicity we have been hearing in Kosovo since June 1999, and the naive repetition of them by the international community, are false. These words too are burning, as is the hope in the hearts of right-thinking policymakers across the world that Kosovo’s barbarians can be civilized at little cost to the West.”

Serbian culture, language and religion are being eradicated by Albanian mobs with the help of the Kosovo Liberation Army that has now been morphed into the Kosovo Peace Corps. Even under U.N. control, as noted in a May 20, 2002, briefing by Derek Chappell, spokesman for the U.N. Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Police, sex slavery, prostitution and rape are rampant in Kosovo. The situation has become worse, not better.

The Wall Street Journal of Nov. 1, 2001 — in an article titled “Al Qaeda’s Balkan Links” — writes: “For the past 10 years, the most senior leaders of al Qaeda have visited the Balkans, including bin Laden himself on three occasions between 1994 and 1996. The Egyptian surgeon turned terrorist leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri has operated terrorist training camps, weapons of mass destruction factors and money-laundering and drug-trading networks throughout Albania, Kosovo, (FYROM) Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bosnia. This has gone on for a decade. Many recruits to the Balkan wars came originally from Chechnya, a jihad in which al Qaeda has also played a part.” …

It is a well-known fact that many of the jihadists who have taken over the government in Kosovo were trained in bin Laden’s terrorist camps. Sitting in the seat of government, Kosovo’s prime minister, Agim Ceku, helped to mastermind the most brutal ethnic-cleansing campaign in post-communist Yugoslavia’s history. According to an Amnesty International report, “Croatia: Impunity for killing after [Operation] Storm,” nearly the entire ethnic Serbian population of the region, estimated to be at least 180,000 people, fled in face of the attack. Hundreds of civilians were murdered, most of the victims being elderly and disabled persons who were unable to flee. The report estimates that “5,000 structures were torched by the advancing Croatian army.”

While the training emphasizes building relationships with the town leaders, does that include building relationships with the few Serbs who are left? Also, are our GIs being prepared for the renewed violence that Albanian Muslims have warned of if independence for Kosovo is delayed or refused? The violence may be directed at Americans who up until now they have considered to be “on their side.”

After Sept. 11, President Bush told the American people that we would do whatever it takes to defend our country against the Islamic terrorists, yet we denied the Serbs the right to fight the same enemy that we are fighting today.

Am I cynical? You bet. Through our flawed foreign policies in the Balkans, we destroyed a Christian people, our ally of two world wars, in order to appease the Muslim world, a world that cannot be appeased. Sept. 11 is a case in point.

["Serbia...attacked Christian Slovenia and ethnically cleansed much of Christian Croatia..."]

I think you need to read a little more on the Civil War in the Balkans my good friend.

In any "normal" court system, he'd have been sentenced to prison for a large portion of the rest of his life. It's just that the ICTY isn't a "normal" court system, and their sentences have been pathetically lenient across the ethnic spectrum of defendants.

Alas, it's Europe, not Texas, so Carla's destined to swim against the current.

Yeah Bubba backed the wrong side but you won't hear about that from the MSM

Worldwide Bubba always threw US miliary support behind the Islamists.

BJ Clintoon, the first Muslim President.

Never try to reason with a Serbophile. They'll try to convince you that Serbia was simply fighting Islam even though they attacked Christian Slovenia...

Really? Just when did Serbia attack Slovenia?

Anyone but a Serbophobe can easily determine that the Slovenia's struggle was against the Yugoslav Federal Government which was headed by non-Serb President.

Well that's fine. But understand the bigger picture. What happens is that "normal" people in our community PERCEIVE that the ICTY is biased against Serbs...do you understand what I'm saying?...(and somehow I think you do.)

Actually, Serbia didn't attack Slovenia, genius. Rather, it was the federal Yugoslav government which was trying to keep Slovenia in the fold. Also, Serbia didn't attack Kosovo. Rather, they were trying to hold on to what they had left, though I certainly don't agree with their methods.

Anybody see one word about this (what has actually happened there) from the 'liberal' press????

We heard the cry of 'genocide' endlessly from the leftards about the Serbians, but it seems utter silence about the truth.

But then, leftists care little for the truth.

There is a very cold place in Hell for liars and propagandists who make believe they are messengers of truth.

The Kosovo conflict for some reason became a cause-celeb among the elite Lib crowd.

My idiot lib boss at the time was a regular hawk about it, because NPR was all for it :)

Actually, it's more like, "Never try and reason with a Serbophobe". As with most racists, they are missing a brain to start with!

Serbian perceptions are in large part the responsibility of the Serbian government. If the Serbs continually choose a government which tells them what they want to hear, rather than giving them the unvarnished truth, then the consequences are theirs to bear.

What GIs need to know about Kosovo...

It begins with a 'K' and ends with an 'O'.

And people live there, too! Most of those people eat food, edible food.

And they wear clothes.

See? All you ever needed to know about Kosovo in one quick and easy lesson!

/silliness off

Every lib I knew at the time was solidly in favor of "Bubba's war" also. CNN and Christiane Amanpour (aka The War Slut) were also actively promoting the war on a nightly basis, if I remember correctly...

Hoplite you're smarter than this...I mean really, all you have to do is replace the word "Serbs" with "Americans" and then sign the statement (you give above) underneath with the name "Usama Bin Laden."

Now back to reality, how would you compare and contrast the sentence of Milan Babic with that which was given to Nasir Oric?

Wrong......I suggest you read about the real story of Operation storm and what they accomplished. You have been Fab'ed again. (Fab'ed means fabricated to some extent)...

Also, the Muslims in Kosovo; was that the 100,000 that Cohen said in May 1999 was missing or dead; no, wait it was the 10,000....opppps, no, it must be the 2,108 that they found. But, funny thing, they also fail to mention the 22 Serbs also found in Mass graves, the only real mass grave found that one could claim was a mass grave.

Also, they fail to mention of the 8,000 "murdered Muslims" in Srebrenica, well, apparently several thousand must have been raised from the dead and went to Croatia and others to Bosnia as directed by the CIA working with the ISI. Imagine that...........NO the truth of the matter the Muslims went after the Serbs, and the Serbs responded heavy handed, lost control and yes, they killed POW's....but nowhere near the contrived and exaggerated version. There were never any Rape Camps or genocide......hogwash.

Never try to reason with those that try to hang on to my goverments justification for entering the Balkans.....the truths are exaggerated claims, the reat is contrived or entirely fabricated. yes, the Serbs did allow the paramilitaries to extend their activities.....but, keep in mind who arrested Milosevic.....We committed more violence in Croatia than the Serbs............I'm strickly American and of Anglo Saxon hertiage...nothing to do with Serbs. Lived there five years............we are bringing to light the truth of the COMPLETE FAILURE of the international presence in Kosovo.....

The Invasion of Serbian Krajina

by Greg Elich

http://emperors-clothes.com/articles/elich/krajina.html

E:\My Documents\Kosovo Book\Serbia File\Operation Storm and MPRI.html

[Mr. Elich is a freelance scholar who has written extensively about Yugoslavia.]

In early August 1995, the Croatian invasion of Serbian Krajina precipitated the worst refugee crisis of the Yugoslav civil war. Within days, more than two hundred thousand Serbs, virtually the entire population of Krajina, fled their homes, and 14,000 Serbian civilians lost them lives. According to a UN official "Almost the only people remaining were the dead and the dying." The Clinton administration's support for the invasion was an important factor in creating this nightmare.

The previous month, Secretary of State Warren Christopher and German Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel met with Croatian diplomat Miomir Zuzul in London. During this meeting, Christopher gave his approval for Croatian military action against Serbs in Bosnia and Krajina. Two days later, the U.S. ambassador to Croatia, Peter Galbraith, also approved Croatia's invasion plan. Stipe Mesic, a prominent Croatian politician, stated that Croatian President Franjo Tudjman "received the go-ahead from the United States. Tudjman can do only what the Americans allow him to do. Krajina is the reward for having accepted, under Washington's pressure, the federation between Croats and Muslims in Bosnia." Croatian assembly deputy Mate Mestrovic also claimed that the "United States gave us the green light to do whatever had to be done." (1)

As Croatian troops launched their assault on August 4, U.S. NATO aircraft destroyed Serbian radar and anti-aircraft defenses. American EA-6B electronic warfare aircraft patrolled the air in support of the invasion. Krajina foreign affairs advisor Slobodan Jarcevic stated that NATO "completely led and coordinated the entire Croat offensive by first destroying radar and anti-aircraft batteries. What NATO did most for the Croatian Army was to jam communications between [Serb] military commands...." (2)
Following the elimination of Serbian anti-aircraft defenses, Croatian planes carried out extensive attacks on Serbian towns and positions. The roads were clogged with refugees, and Croatian aircraft bombed and strafed refugee columns. Serbian refugees passing through the town of Sisak were met by a mob of Croatian extremists, who hurled rocks and concrete at them. A UN spokesman said, "The windows of almost every vehicle were smashed and almost every person was bleeding from being hit by some object." Serbian refugees were pulled from their vehicles and beaten. As fleeing Serbian civilians poured into Bosnia, a Red Cross representative in Banja Luka said, "I've never seen anything like it. People are arriving at a terrifying rate." Bosnian Muslim troops crossed the border and cut off Serbian escape routes. Trapped refugees were massacred as they were pounded by Croatian and Muslim artillery. Nearly 1,700 refugees simply vanished. While Croatian and Muslim troops burned Serbian villages, President Clinton expressed his understanding for the invasion, and Christopher said events "could work to our advantage." (3)

No, the Albanian jihad started in the mid-1980's and has proceeded since then but only with NATO's misguided assistance.

I just know you hate seeing the truth published in Stars and Stripes.

I know you hope that the Islamofascists will win but it won't be in Kosovo anytime soon.
