Hayworth Concedes Election Defeat
Phoenix Business Journal ^ | November 14, 2006

Posted on 11/14/2006 4:07:57 PM PST by Dane

Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth late Tuesday conceded defeat to former Tempe mayor Harry Mitchell in their contentious Arizona congressional contest.

Mitchell, a Democrat, led Hayworth on election night but the Republican refused to concede until more early and provisional ballots were counted.

Hayworth said in a statement Tuesday that it appeared he would not overtake Mitchell for the U.S. House seat representing Tempe, Scottsdale and Ahwatukee.

The Arizona contest was an especially negative and bitter one, centering around ethics accusations, border security and the Iraq war.

Mitchell's victory in a Republican-oriented suburban district was part of national tide for Democrats and the seat is expected be hotly contested in 2008.

Hayworth, a former sports broadcaster, could return to the media as a political pundit or talk show host

Oh, I really do hate to disappoint you, but his opponent is even more viralently anti-illegal than JD was. ROTFLMCO!

Well if that is true then why is Mitchells's first vote in the 110th Congress going to be to vote for nancy pelosi as Speaker.

Harry Mitchell, an avuncular former mayor of Tempe who supports a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the country.

Yeah, he's a really "more viralently anti-illegal than JD was."

It's disappointing that there are so many idiots who support illegal immigration or just don't care about it.

Bush should be blasted on his ignorant and dangerous immigration policy.

Uh you do know that Mitchell's first vote in the 110th Congress is a vote for nancy pelosi.

Of course.

He also is going to vote to build a bridge about the size of the Brooklyn Bridge across the Rio Grande, so as not to slow down the 'immigrants' as they travel here to steal work from Americans.

My point was simply that in order to win he had to appear stronger on the border than Hayworth, and he was willing to lie to do so.

Being tough on the border is a winning issue.

That's going to be the case in 08 too.

"Pretty bad to lose with that kind of registration advantage considering he wasn't caught up in a scandal."

I think a big factor for voters was "spanking" Republicans, for their lack of accomplishments with a majority for four-six years.

Independent turnout was up, and Independents voting democrat was up.

>> Another Border Blowhard bites the dust. <<

Meet some prominent rising stars in the 110th Congress

Congressman
Tom Tancredo (R-CO)

Number #1 Target of Democrats and RINOs in recent years with his increasingly high profile anti-illegal immigration movement. RINOs vowed to "take him out" in both the 2004 and 2006 primaries and some even promised they would vote Dem if he was nominated. Crushed a highly-funded, "moderate Republican turned Democrat" in the 2004 general election. Easily dispatched another media-backed Democrat in 2006, in his marginly GOP district.

Congressman
Brian Bilbry (R-CA)

Democrats vowed that Duke Cunningham's seat would be their FIRST major breakthrough in 2006. Former Congressman Bilbry had the last laugh with his sucessful comeback campaign in 2006, having run single-issue anti-illegal immigration campaign against Francine Bubsy. Though people disliked him on other issues, he sucesfully united Republican conservatives, Republican moderates, and independants who were fed up with illegal aliens.

Congressman-Elect
Peter Roskam (R-IL)

Defeated Rahm Emnaual's hand-picked candidate to suceed Henry Hyde in one of the Dem's MOST targeted races in the country. Made Duckworth's support of "Senate amnesty bill" the focal point of his race. Ads blasting Democrat Duckworth for "giving social security" to illegal aliens were the highpoint of his anti-illegal immigration campaign. Dems had blasted Roskam for being much further to the right of Hyde on the issue.

See Roskam's famous "contraversal" winning campaign ad here on YouTube.

Uh you do know that Tancredo campaigned for both Graf and Hayworth and both lost.

To paraphrase a well known adage, it seems that Tancredo is political poison.

Also, here are their opponents, in case you're going to argue the Dem candidates were lightweight pushovers without any party support --

Bill Winter
DEFEATED
"Decorated Navy Veteran" personally recruited by Democrats to "take out" Tancredo
ON ILLEGAL ALIENS: "Republicans in Colorado have offered nothing but hate, division, and fringe issues. I believe Mr. Tancredo is engaged in his personal crusade to the detriment of our district. I don't believe Mr. Tancredo has any solutions to our immigration issues, and it seems clear to me that he is in favor of making criminals out of good people for his own political benefit. I cannot support that."

Tammy Duckworth
DEFEATED
Disabled, Decorated, Iraq War Female Minority Vet PERSONALLY tapped by Rahm Emanaul & Dick Durbin, who pledged the Dems would "take Hyde's seat with the changing demographics of the district rejecting extremists like Roskam". She narrowly won the primary over a more popular local Dem due to high-profile national DCCC support.
ON ILLEGAL ALIENS “Like Senator Obama, I make no apologies for supporting a path towards citizenship for those already here who will pay back taxes and earn their way. In the waning days of this campaign, as two public polls show him falling behind, so Peter Roskam has resorted to outright distortions of both our records. It’s old-style politics at its worst, but it won't stop the tidal wave of change that is sweeping career politicians like Roskam out of office. That's why The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, and Senator Obama have all personally endorsed my candidacy"

Francine Busby
DEFEATED
Popular California Buisnesswoman who ran two successful school bond campaigns in 1998 and 2000, then became president of the Cardiff Education Foundation in 2000. Dems championed polls showing she would take the seat of "disgraced former Congressman Duke Cunningtham", becoming the next Loretta Sanchez of California
ON ILLEGAL ALIENS: "Everybody can help, yeah, absolutely, you can all help. You don't need papers for voting, you don't need to be a registered voter to help.”

Ummm you do know the Democrats considered Henry Hyde's seat their biggest takeover opportunity due to "changing demographics" and Peter Roskam WON on the immigration issue there, desptie early estimates that Duckworth would win by "1000-2000 votes"

You DO know Both Bilbry and Roskam AGREE with Roskam 100% on the immigration issue and their newly elected status in 2006 will add to his support in the House Immigration Caucus?

Evidentially you DON'T know and are clueless about campaigns in other states, or you guys would stop saying "everyone who hitched their ride to Tancredo lost". blah blah blah.

Read up on the Roskam campaign and grow a brain.

It appears JD was not as tough on immigration as Mitchell was.
