Bad news for the Center for Constitutional Rights. Germany will not pursue their war crime charges.
Germany's federal prosecutor will not pursue a criminal complaint accusing US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld of war crimes in Iraq. Even though a German law requires German prosecutors to investigate allegations of war crimes even if they are not committed by Germans or in Germans, German Federal Prosecutor Kay Nehm said US authorities bore the initial responsibility to do so.
He added that his office could only act if US officials failed to do so, but said this was not the case. A US organization called Center for Constitutional Rights had filed the complained against Rumsfeld and other high-ranking officials in Germany for the role they played in torture and abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison.
Nice to see some good German common sense. Does this mean it is over? Not quite. CCR has immediately put up an action alert!

FReepers are blaming the Germans for this. I'm not sure why. American lawyers filed the complaint.

The Germans must be disappointed. The month-long Oktoberfests are over and now they won't have an anti-American Novemberfest TV trial to watch while they guzzle more Heinekens.

The article is from October 2, 2005.

It's not "Germany," as these headlines keep saying, it's a radical Communist organization that tried to prosecute Rumsfeld.
Anti-Americanism seems to be fairly widespread in Germany, as in the rest of Old Europe, but most Germans really don't have time for this sort of thing, I'm sure.

Now that Pelosi Galore is in charge, it's never too late to start drinking. I like your tagline, but for those of who are already committed drinkers, it should be modified to:
Now that Pelosi Galore is in charge, it's never too early to start drinking.

Is the CCR the new ACLU? Do they file lawsuits at taxpayer money like the ACLU does? Haven't heard of the CCR before today so don't know- thanks for the article Jay- I'd doen a report on the lawsuit being filed in Germany- it wasn't Germany that sought to file the suit but rather 11 Muslims and a Saudi dude who have I guess tried to file similiar suits only to be turned down. BTW Tahnks for all the work ya do keeping tabs on groups liek this- Very important to keep informed on their Anti-Christian anti-American lawsuits- hopefulyl the government will put the kaboshes on them by forcing them to pay hteir own way in lawsuits instead of using taxparey monies!

But the left got the intended publicity off the story and planted the seeds of "Rumsfeld Charged with War Crimes" into the heads of the American public. Far too many will continue to believe it's true until the end of time.

Heineken is the leading imported beer in Germany.
Until 1998, Heineken was the leading imported beer in the USA.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
Lack of research, I guess. It still seems that, no matter how much they decry it, many if not most, still will take anything for granted that is told them in print.
However... It would be better if Germany did not have such a silly law. It kind of sets them up for it.

That's not really possible in the European civil law system. Rummy would have to do it to the judge, and the judge would simply say, "do not pass Go, do not collect $200."

Well, they could always file the same complaint with "Judge"
Balthasar Garzon in Spain.
He and the poofter Zapatero get all excited when they are in the spotlight and are always willing to do anything if it advances the cause.
