Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas."
Dawn Bryant, a spokeswoman at Best Buy Co. Inc., says their advertising will not be using the term "Merry Christmas." "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," Bryant said. While many other retailers have decided to return to the traditional "Merry Christmas", Best Buy will not be among them. Best Buy considers the use of "Merry Christmas" to be disrespectful.

I think you missed the point.If you read between the lines, Best Buy has outlawed the use of Christmas in their advertising. Why would they do that? Would they do that for Velntine Day? Or Halloween? ot Labor Day? Why just Christmas?
I know this will get me jumped on, but if saying "Happy Holidays" is insulting Christians, then surely not also saying "Happy Channukah" is insulting Jews?
Considering that Christmas shopping is not a big deal for Best Buy, this makes perfect sense.
Further, since 90 percent of America is celebrating Christmas, it is offensive to call it "Happy Holiday's" -- because people are being pressured to say it because those pressuring them want to avoid saying "Merry Christmas."
Just because Channukah falls during this time does not mean Christians must hide their celebration. The fact the Christmas season is so over-the-top in celebration and observance is because it is a Christian holiday. This, of course, does not keep anyone from wishing Jews a Happy Channukah. One does not have to downplay Christmas in order to celebrate Channukah or any other holiday that falls in this period.
It's not that hard to understand. People, I think, willfully make it difficult. Are they embarrassed because so many people like Christmas. Certainly the ACLU types despise Christmas and want it eradicated from the calendar and celebrated privately. The war against Christmas is part of a larger war against Christianity in the public square (And Judaism, too, for that matter.)
Another point is that Christmas is a major Christian holiday, while Chanukah is a minor Jewish one. So the affront to Christians is proportionately much larger than to Jews.
They ought recognize both IMO, if they want to, but deliberately shunning both holidays, while hoping at the same time to reap millions of dollars in profits from them is breathtakingly hypocritical.
Are you kidding? Retailers of all stripes sell more at Christmas time -- specifically because it is Christmas.

I was being sarcastic...Best Buy probably generates its entire profit margin through Christmas shopping. Deciding that Christmas greetings to Christmas shoppers is somehow offensive demonstrates a profound contempt on the part of Best Buy towards those shoppers IMO.

One time while in a fancy Tar'zhay store I spied a display featuring "Holiday Music." I went over and looked over the various selections, and doggone it, all were Christmas songs. Can you imagine that?
