THE LEFT RETURNS: PART II
Two hundred and three years ago, at the signing of the Declaration of Indepedence, Benjamin Franklin offered a starkly realistic view of what awaited America's first freedom fighters. "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." In the Philadelphia of 2006, it will does all conservatives well to remember that assessment. I apologize for the length of what follows. I think all of it is useful as a reminder for what we are up against.
Well, friends and comrades, the dust has barely cleared from Election 2006 and the Left has already begun to show its face in public again. Calls for impeachment are blossoming like red roses on May 1. Not only in the streets, but on university campuses and... IN the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Radical communists, socialists of all stripes, and various shades of pink showed up for a Veterans Day rally that demeaned our troops, demanded withdrawal and sought to build the political momentum to force impeachment of President Bush and Dick Cheney.
Leaving my apartment yesterday, I saw an article in the Metro and my eye fell on a single sentence... Cindy Sheehan was coming to the Constitution Center and she would be demanding Bush's impeachment. Even though admission was $10, I knew I had to be there.
I staked out the place an hour early. World Can't Wait (Philly) and a stray Lyndon LaRouche guy were the only ones there. As people slowly sauntered in, I went over and talked to a WCW guy, posing as an interested student who might write an article on this. He couldn't wait to have a captive audience. Interestingly, his most pressing concern was abortion rights and discussing our PA's senator-elect, "Santorum-Lite". His goal is to generate a "people's movement for impeachment"-- we all know what that means. You, me, and the base of the Republican Party? We're all "Christo-Fascists" and the goal of the Bush Regime is to radically remake society. He hands me The Call, a publication of WCW, which demands the driving out of the Bush Regime. It's signed by numerous lumanaries of the Left, such as Howard Zinn (communist), Barbara Ehrenreich, and US REPRESENTATIVE JOHN CONYERS. But most of you probably already knew that. He then spouted off the usual leftist nonsense: Kerry/Gore won, but laid down too easily-- unlike Obrador of Mexico; Colin Powell is a mass murderer; those evil Israelis drove out the nice, secular Palestinians; the Bush Regime knew that Hurricane Katrina was going to kill thousands of New Orleans blacks, troops dressed in black commandeered buses with aid and massacred black "survivors" misrepresented as looters; and that the Florida 2000 debacle occurred because the voters were black. God knows how long into our one-sided conversation, a park ranger came over to ask if he had a permit. Immediately, the WCWer launched into a spiel about 1st Amendment Rights. The Park Ranger smiled and told him that he now had a verbal permit.
At this point, I went inside of the Constitution Center (you know, the place where an event is being held to advocate a "people's movement" to force the Bush Regime from power) and upstairs to the main event. Not enough people were there, so admission was now free. I walk in to an auditorium about 1/4 full-- there were probably about 20-25 people, not including the panelists. And there, seated at the table was Cindy Sheehan. Soon after I entered, they began a chant: "What do we want? Impeachment! When do we want it? Now! When do our Congresspeople want it? Soon!" The emcee then went on to insist that the Left is too quiet and too polite...
I missed the Cindy spiel, but caught Jody from Code Pink, who wondered aloud that, after Tuesday that "This thing just might work..." and asserted that Conyers and Leahy are two men who are "commited to the truth." I think I have an idea what that means.
"Spoiler Warning: Plot and/or ending details follow."
Then, several eminent (and less than eminent) members of the Blogosphere held a panel discussion on the course impeachment should take. Martin of Blue Man Tribune argued that impeachment must unfold organically as a result of a series of investigations, which will serve to build momentum. They believe they need to make their case to the American people by first discussing moderate-sounding "accountability." REMEMBER THAT PHRASE. They may be crazy, but they ain't fools. Susie MadRag (I hope I spelled that right--it's close enough...) of Suburban Guerilla had little to say, except to draw an sophomoric analogy to the Bush Administration and a zit that she would like to pop.
One Rob of OpEdNews.com doesn't really care about impeachment: he wants to use ANY (with emphasis) means to cause the Bush Regime to fold, who are "some of the worst criminals in the history of the world." Rob opined for the nearing day of the advent of the Pelosi administration, which will be aided by the development of a "mediagenic" drive for impeachment that will even draw Fox News in. Leslie (I think) of Culture Kitchen bragged about her role in educating her fellow soccermoms who "wouldn't understand what's going on" without her guiding light. She opined that we are in a brutal information war and the Left needs to develop an "alternative broadcasting network" to push 24/7 for impeachment and where people can be lead rightly (err... leftly).
Chris Robb of AfroNetizen declared that he had the brightest daughter in the world, because she discovered that Bush is not the worst president in the world (take a deep breath, all, and be sitting down for the next part. It's a doozy.) Ronald Reagan was, because he laid the groundwork for all this. I'm sitting in a roomful of leftists and my draw dropped visibly open. Robb then went on to argue that impeachment is not an end, because the system itself is the problem. Thus, Robb suggests that the Left needs to use it to leverage real structural change. Yes, you heard it here first. A leftist sat in the National Constitution Center, denigrated the Founders, and argued for a socialist overthrow of the capitalist system. Finally, Dave Lindhoff of "The Case for Impeachment", thiscantbehappening.com, and Counterpunch didn't want to impeach Bush because he's bankrupting American imperialism and militarism. They also discussed why they kept impeachment on the downlow during the election: it would have energized the Republican base.
Distraught, but adamantly ready to do battle with the Left, I next headed up towards Independence Hall. Mirabile dictu, I saw flags waving that were not carried by Leftists. A small, intrepid band of Freepers were standing strong against the two-faced leftists across the street. Passersby thanked and congratulated them, including an active duty soldier and his family.
Although I couldn't stay very long, it reminded me that, despite the Democratic victories, the impulse of the American people is not to the Left, but conservative. Thank you for coming out to Philly, Freepers.
As T.S. Eliot once said:
"If we take the widest and wisest view of a Cause, there is no such thing as a Lost Cause, because there is no such thing as a Gained Cause. We fight for lost causes because we know that our defeat and dismay may be the preface to our successors' victory, though that victory itself will be temporary; we fight rather to keep something alive than in the expectation that it will triumph."
So, friends and comrades, keep fighting the good fight. The Leftist literature had one thing to say that will stick with me: THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN. WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.

Rush talked about this yesterday. Said Pelosi and Conyers will use this as a reason for impeachment claiming it's "the will of the people." Hope he's wrong.
Wednesday, the day after the election, I was polled by Zogby. One of the questions was whether I agreed with impeaching Bush. The drumbeat has started...
We are soon to be dealing with Iran. The country will hopefully tire of this nonsense and worry about our national security.
Good report. A very interesting read.
I hope they get louder and louder and the MSM gives them all the airtime they want over the next two years!
The trouble is that too many conservatives are on the impeachment bandwagon as well.
Freepers can be found wherever Code Pink Commies put in an appearance.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
If they are on that bandwagon they are not true conservatives, there RINOS, big difference.
Both Berkeley and another CA town voted to impeach Bush also.
I hope Bush is happy with what his new tone has brought him. It's not what I wished for at all.
But what we're seeing here is the "true conservatives" (primarily the Savage crowd) saying that the president is the RINO and jumping on the impeachment bandwagon. I'm kind of pissed at the whole thing; this wasn't an entirely disastrous defeat and the rat leadership is a target-rich environment. Even at our small level, the time is now to turn and confront the enemy. the least we can do is harass them while the larger army is regrouping.
Dom Giordano talked about this today on his Saturday show - WPHT, and said exactly as you reported, that it will be the people's will. I remember protesting in Media when Gore tried to steal the presidency; am ready to do it again. Thanks for reporting.
If they commence the "oversight" in February as they gave threatened, the clock begins.
After that, the next attack on American soil should result in the arrest of the Democrat leadership of Congress on sabotage and obstruction charges.
OK, like - you forgot the part where he makes marmalade from cute, big-eyed fuzzy kittens. Afetr he eats their liver, of course...
Let them try! Let them show all their cards and their true faces!! They've got two years to shoot them selves in the foot and reload several times! The mouthier the better! And if they spend all their time in investigations instead of new-wasteful law making thats another good thing.
If only the Republicans had gonads like the dems do.
But I agree that the pseudo cons once again have joined hands with the left in calling for impeachment of President Bush.
The last few days on FR have displayed this unholy alliance, in all its ugliness.
Eventually, it's going to come to an Indonesia 1965 solution, as it does everywhere the Left becomes too powerful.
