November 11th is the general's birthday and he like Donald Rumsfeld, resigned during war. General Patton was relieved of his command and decided to resign and Rumsfeld ...well few know the real reason for his resignation...

Lol! I think so......but Patton was the original. I'd LOVE to have that guy on our battlefields right now. We sure could use someone that gutsy out there!

Of course millions have an image of Patton from the eponymous film..his family wanted nothing to do with Hollywood and refuse any archives. Coppola did a credible job with what he had.

That said, however, the film has created legions of admirers...and that is not bad.

Now back to Rumsfeld...are you saying that the brass resented him as much as they resented Patton in his time? I know some did. That was my initial reason for posting it as I did. And why?

I know...seen it scores of times.

It was the perfect role for Scott too. He refused to accept his oscar from hollyweird (sent it back) saying: I'm not attending a meat parade.

Speaking of which Patton is on right now on AMC. I've never seen the movie before but the little I saw tonight seemed kind of anti American and distant. I wonder if that was made in the 70's.

Maybe some do, the older folks. The young ones could probably care less. Sad.

It was not meant to be a pro or anti America film. It was meant as a study of the man Patton. And much of what "Patton" does in the film is very positive IMO.

On August 26, 1944, General Patton wires General Eisenhower upon entering Paris: "Dear Ike, today I spat in the Seine."

Happy Birthday General!!!

I'd like to join in praising General Patton on his birthday. I don't believe the comments put forth here re Patton, mean to suggest that if he were alive today he would fight the war in Iraq the same as he fought in WWII.

The wish and desire to have a Patton, is to say; we sorely need a military man or a heavyweight politician to step forward and be willing to use everything at our disposal to win this war and kill as many of the enemy as possible.

Engage and destroy as many as you can. Try to avoid civilians, but if they're in the way, or used as shields, take-them-out too. Civilians "there" by choice are no better than the armed enemy....civilians "there" by force are FORCED by the enemy to be there. i.e. If anyone should be angry about civilian deaths it should be the locals. Gangsters using civilians to hide would wind-up fighting the US military PLUS the civilians wanting pay-back for their friends/relatives that the terrorists caused to die. If attacked from a religious shrine etc. blow the dam*ed thing up....If they complain because it was blown up - tell them that if they allow the terrorists to hide in mosques the mosques will cease to exist.
Show them the wrath of the United States Military first hand, and make them understand that they're dealing with something that can crush them at any moment.

This would be the kind of war strategy that I would expect from General Patton, if he were alive today.

On this Veterans Day: May God bless the men and women of the Armed Forces and all those who have served in uniform.

The news media isn't really good for much. They don't give us any factual information. All they do is hound people to death.

That was WWII....probably before your time. There are books you know. He had stated his intention of resigning but before he could he "mysteriously" died.

"He was as right about them then...as he would be now."

Gen. William T. Sherman felt the same way about the press. He called them "the most contemptible race of men that exist."

Ok, the few minutes I saw seemed to have an objective quality to it, like Patton was a nut and not an important element to defeating Hitler. I saw that with the scenes of the troops saying they wanted to shoot him and others complaining they were shedding their blood but he got the glory. From the little I know about him I've read his men loved him.

You've said it the best of anyone I think.

This whole "winning hearts and minds" is the wrong way to win. I think although it's been played up greatly by the administration in the hope of making the war pallatable to the left. Neither the Muslims nor the Left wil be "won over" though.

At 121 years old, I doubt if he would be doing much.

Well we don't really know that. He could be anywhere....

Thanks God he is NOT here among us!

He certainly would have company with and be persecuted like Rumsfeld, Gonzales, etc. by the Germans!!

General thank you for your excellent service for the U.S. and General MacArthur also!!!

What I wouldn't give to have that old b@$tard around today. He'd rip the liberals a new one; plus he would get to see his reincarnation (me).
