November 11th is the general's birthday and he like Donald Rumsfeld, resigned during war. General Patton was relieved of his command and decided to resign and Rumsfeld ...well few know the real reason for his resignation...

At 121 years old, I doubt if he would be doing much.

The marines had already figured out how to beat the VC before the Westmoreland debacle. The night ambushes were devastating to VC. But, Westmoreland wanted a conventional war which was fine if you were fighting a war, but we were not. In Vietnam, we could have finished them off easily without wasting 50,000 GIs. Bomb the dykes and blockade the Haiphong harbor, North Vietman would have been finished in a couple of days. Even so, after Tet they were finished except for their rescue by the 5th column here at home. The Kennedy genocide did the trick for them.

I wouldn't doubt it. Dad finally did open up to an author while he was recovering after a CABG. Yikes. Dachau was horrible for these Men to witness.

He was classic...and classically correct. Although he was certainly right on the soviets...whether the US could have withstood another number of years of "hot" war is another matter.

How true, but a resurrected warrior would not be that old.

Truly great...certainly the prime force behind the victory in Europe in WWII.

I wonder if the Euros celebrate him?

Speaking of Zell...did he campaign for the GOP anywhere? Or for the "Blue Dogs"?

The media----absolutely base and immoral.

He was as right about them then...as he would be now.

"Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies, and establish Thy justice among men and nations. Amen."

REPORTER: "General, I see you keep a Bible at your bedstand do you still find time to read it?"
PATTON: "Every goddam day!"

Always amuses me how the Patton wannabees worship a Hollywood movie image and miss the real man completely.

If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.”

"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."

Patton adapted his thinking to the war he was fighting, he did not try to force his mission to fit into his preconceived ideas. Don Rumsfeild was trying to teach you all those same lessons. And like Patton the brass hats hated him as much as they hated Patton in his day

Not sure what his total involvement was, but he sure made his day at the Repub Convention. I will never forget that speech where he ripped the socialist libs a new one....and rightly so.

A good man -- too bad he dropped out. Would have been a true patriotic, conservative American resource.
