Just days after his resignation, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is about to face more repercussions for his involvement in the troubled wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. New legal documents, to be filed next week with Germanys top prosecutor, will seek a criminal investigation and prosecution of Rumsfeld, along with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet and other senior U.S. civilian and military officers, for their alleged roles in abuses committed at Iraqs Abu Ghraib prison and at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba...
... Lawyers for the plaintiffs say that one of the witnesses who will testify on their behalf is former Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, the one-time commander of all U.S. military prisons in Iraq. Karpinski who the lawyers say will be in Germany next week to publicly address her accusations in the case has issued a written statement to accompany the legal filing, which says, in part: It was clear the knowledge and responsibility [for what happened at Abu Ghraib] goes all the way to the top of the chain of command to the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ...

She needs to be doing hard time in Leavenworth, instead of the lowly enlisted personnel.
BTW, that's why I got out of the Army Nat'l. Guard....too many ossifers worried more about punching the right cards up the command ladder, and CYA, than taking care of their troops.

I think you meant prosecution in the title, but persecution is more appropriate.

Maybe she expects to stay in Germany the rest of her life.

A) There was a lawsuit by American leftists filed against Rummy in 2004, but the German prosecutors didn´t bring it to court. This will happen this time, too.
B) Germany has released a terrorist, who has served his imprisonment time - 15 years is a usual time for murder, and the guy was in for 18 years.

I'd vote for Rummy for President any day. I have followed him since the early days. Both General Tommy Franks and I think the guy is a genius! He's Rummy!!!

Good morning.
"...she is a prime example of why I believe women have no place in combat."
Karpinski likely never heard a shot fired in anger, other than as a pop in the far distance.
She was a REMF in the truest sense of the phrase, not at all like the young ladies out there on the streets in Hummers who are getting wounded and killed like other soldiers.

LOL! I wouldn't have even taken the time to check it out from the library, she made me so mad! Actually, I was at the dentist's office and the excerpt was in a magazine.

I see the Germans are going to prosecute Rumsfeld, presumably from their high moral standing.
The only answer to that is Sink the Bismarck!

Doesn't anyone find it amusing that a country that exterminated 6 MILLION jews, gypsies and handicapped is hosting a trial for "war crimes"?

Nobody is prosecuting Rumsfeld. American leftists reported Rumsfeld to German prosecutors, as they did in 2004, and this report will not be brought to court in form of a charge. The German prosecutors dropped a similar report in 2004, too.

So what? It´s ACLU with some Iraqis and their lawyers, and they´re JUST REPORTING alleged "crimes" by Mr. Rumsfeld to the German Chief Prosecutor. Last time they did, the report was investigated (as the prosecutors have to) but dropped with the reason given that the US provides a sufficient justice system which can take care of these allegations on its own. Germany is as much responsible for that as the Vatican. I could file a lawsuit against you in the US and the US can´t do nothing about it, because it´s American law to investigate allegations about criminal behaviour. But that doesn´t mean that such a lawsuit will be brought to court in form of a charge by the prosecutors.

Good morning.
"The German prosecutors dropped a similar report in 2004, too."
Michael81Dus assures us that German courts won't let the action continue.
We must be thinking of some other European Dhimmi state when we worry about Rummy and the VP being brought before the bench for war crimes. If it were Germany, do you suppose the case would be tried in Nuremburg(berg?).

Two differences between then and now:
1. Rumsfeld has retired
2. They got a traitor witness.
Also the German prosecutor is the one bringing the case up again.

Just how do they think they're going to haul Mr. Rumsfeld before some petty-anty court in Europe?
He can hide at my house...
