"...I wish they would draft me, but I'm quite a few years over the limit..."

Hell, Gaffer, me and Dave tried to re-up after 9/11 and they told us we were too old. Too old!

Oh well, we're all probably gonna find out what the muzzies have been storing in all those mosques in Dearbornistan, Chicagostan, and the other -istans here pretty soon.

Stay well armed and safe, pal.............FRegards

There's a show on TV that I just started watching called "Jericho"......it is scary what can happen. Now with the illegals going to be given amnesty and the borders opened up further, what's happening in the show isn't a very far stretch to reality. If I were young with a family, I wouldn't be living near any large population center of this country.

ANY type of mandatory national service is both an asertion of state ownership of the citizen and a form of slavery.

Vulcan = now that is some firepower!

As an ADA weapon against the fighter aircraft of the day, it wasn't that great: max effective range of a click, but it did put out a lot of rounds, perhaps enough to distract the bad guys from the target.

When were you at Graf, taxcontrol? The closest I got was to Vilseck on several occasions.

I was stationed at Hahn & Spangdahlem for two years apiece. Our battalion was responsible for SHORAD of Hahn, Bitburg, & Spangdahlem ABs. Great assignment, especially for a bachelor. If you were married with kids, it wasn't so great.

I was over in Bamburg on the east side of West Germany, North of Nuremberg, south and west of Hof, our deployment area. My unit was apart of 1st AD...3rd Brigade, 1st Bn 52nd INF. I got over there in mid '83 and left in early '87. 44 months in country.... loved it there.

We would do the normal runs of Graf and Vilseck, but we mostly went to "wild chicken". Remember the saying... if you don't like the weather, wait 10 min? I remember we one morning at 'chicken... we woke up to a clear but cold day, by noon it was snowing, by mid-afternoon it was rain and by dinner time it was sunny and warming up.

I was addressing the person who said if you needed a draft you had already lost the war. I did not agree with that. Please note what the discussion was.

As to rich people in the service, both my father and I have made long posts about the LARGE number of wealthy family members from our town who serve.

The discussion was if you could win a war where a draft was needed.

The discussion had nothing, ZERO to do with if we should have a draft or not. It was if you could win a war where you needed to draft people, and I was pointing out all the war's won with a draft.

No I have not served, yet. But my dad served from 71-74 as a RA not US and favors a draft. You say "Professional Army" to him and he will give you a history lesson on what professional armies have done. Oh and both my grandfathers served in WWII, one was a volunteer and I don't know about the other.

Well, winning the war with draftees versus volunteer is something we'll have to see in the future war on Islam. As for your opinion on draft-won wars, I think you and your father have different opinions than I and I wasn't criticizing whether you served or not, I just think you are wrong.

At least one of the wars you say was won with a draft (WWII) was won with people mostly willing drafted.. a far cry from Vietnam. Even in WWI, it was treated as an adventure and many enlistees were eager to go.

Except for basic training, my father spent the entirety of WWII in combat. Except for a short trip home to get married, he didn't return home until 1948 from Germany where my sister was born. Later after I was born, he was sent to Korea. I was in 68-76 and my impression is different than your father's. From what I say in my 6 odd years while they had the draft, the attitude of the draftees was piss poor, period. During Vietnam, most of the draftees didn't want to be there, they were just looking for their time to be up. Vietnam was probably the first war where soldiers were not fielded until the duration.

This army of today (all services) is vastly superior to the Vietnam era, period, even if they are still only deployed in combat areas for a year or less..

There is much more to the argument and i agree with some of what you say. It was not my intent to argue the merits of a draft.

My dads experience is also effected by the fact that he was in a Pershing Nuclear Missile unit. A Pershing Battalion had about 1600 men and because of the jobs had lots of college educated draftees. My father says most were happy to be there rather than in Viet Nam, and most wanted clean records when they got home.

I think everyone that physically can should serve this nation

Before anyone starts saying how good national service is just take a minute and think of all the pork and spending that will go into this.

Isn't it ironic.

The radical campus Lefties who finally got their claws and fangs into the old time Demoncrat party and became their "leaders", fought and demonstrated against the Draft in the '60's.

Now, they want to force young people into military service, to die in wars started by older folks of priviledge. (think of the millionaires club of demoncrats in the Senate and House)

Stranger and stranger, the times we see.

Your dad's experience was atypical I think because the people chose for those units most likely had to undergo psychological screening because of being involved with nuclear material. When I was in they called it the Personnel Reliability Program. Personnel in those units were a higher caliber because they had to be..

I'm just against the concept of forced national/"volunteer" service.

Although I can understand such statements I believe that all should serve in the military. This hones patriotism and self-esteem. We are using National Guard on the borders, we used them in Katrina and we use them all over the world. It does not take a rocket scientist to deliver food, etc. A person's behavior could be used to determine placement regarding service to our country.
