Vulcan = now that is some firepower!

As an ADA weapon against the fighter aircraft of the day, it wasn't that great: max effective range of a click, but it did put out a lot of rounds, perhaps enough to distract the bad guys from the target.

When were you at Graf, taxcontrol? The closest I got was to Vilseck on several occasions.

I was stationed at Hahn & Spangdahlem for two years apiece. Our battalion was responsible for SHORAD of Hahn, Bitburg, & Spangdahlem ABs. Great assignment, especially for a bachelor. If you were married with kids, it wasn't so great.

I was over in Bamburg on the east side of West Germany, North of Nuremberg, south and west of Hof, our deployment area. My unit was apart of 1st AD...3rd Brigade, 1st Bn 52nd INF. I got over there in mid '83 and left in early '87. 44 months in country.... loved it there.

We would do the normal runs of Graf and Vilseck, but we mostly went to "wild chicken". Remember the saying... if you don't like the weather, wait 10 min? I remember we one morning at 'chicken... we woke up to a clear but cold day, by noon it was snowing, by mid-afternoon it was rain and by dinner time it was sunny and warming up.
