Somebody mentioned on another thread that Rumsfeld's departure as Secy of Defense would mean the beginning of criminal proceedings and lawsuits against him in various countries. I just didn't realize how soon this would begin.

Not surprising that it was in Germany. I have found the Germans in general to be even more anti-American than the French.

I don't think they would have a case. He didnt order it, and those responsible have already been prosecuted.

New legal documents, to be filed next week with Germany's top prosecutor, will seek a criminal investigation and prosecution of Rumsfeld, along with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet and other senior U.S. civilian and military officers, for their alleged roles in abuses committed at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison and at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

And his jurisdiction for this is??????

Love to surround the German embassy and do nothing. Just encircle it and make them push through for entry and exit of the embassy.

How would a Kraut have any criminal-law jurisdiction over an American Offical?

It's due to Rumsfeld that these sanctimonious twits even know about the abuse. It was under his direction that the perpetrators were caught, tried, and imprisoned. This kind of crap is precisely why we aren't a signator to the ICC and probably won't ever be even under the Democrats.

I'm sorry, where have I been?

I haven't seen any prosecutions for the horrible atrocities in Darfur and Rwanda.
