PLANO, Texas -- A Plano mother who drowned her two children in 2003 is free to restart her life.
Lisa Diaz is home with her relatives, just three years after killing her two young daughters.
In September 2003, Diaz drowned the sisters, 3 and 6 years old. She told police voices told her to kill them and she was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Doctors said Diaz had recovered enough to be sent home, and a judge ordered her set free.
Collin County prosecutors released this statement: "Given Ms. Diaz apparent swift recovery, Judge Rusch had no choice but to release her. Today's decision underscores the need to reform the insanity defense so that intentional killers are held accountable.
Diaz and her husband divorced while she was in the mental hospital.
Unbelievable.
Democrats get power... insanity follows.
3 years for killing your own children. Wow, I am stunned.
Local broadcast also had story right before it about a female teacher's aide arrested for having sex with a 14 y.o. student and the laughable claim that she'd face up to 20 years in prison. Right. Women get counseling, a slap on the wrist, and a Lifetime Channel movie of the week.
Good. Now it might get enough attention to be changed to "Guilty but insane". Get treatment, but if you "recover" then you go on to prison.
Yeah, a friggin' miracle.
just three years after killing her two young daughters.
just three years after killing her two young daughters.
just three years after killing her two young daughters.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
I'm glad this wasn't the deal when I was a kid. In my parents' household, it might have been worth it.
Yes, she recovered as soon as she realized she wouldn't go to jail. This disgusts me more than I can express.
Just eliminate the insanity defense altogether. Why should a nutcase be rewarded? All it does is encourage criminals to go find a friendly shrink who will phony up some twinkie defense in exchange for a few bucks.
She was found not guilty by a jury. Would you have the state lock people up after they are found not guilty by a jury?
This is justice? I don't think so. This stinks.
Just wait for Andrea Yates to be released. The Houston Chronicle did a horrible job of explaining this. They kept saying that she needed to be treated for the rest of her life after being found not guilty by reason of insanity. However, the standard is as soon as she is no longer insane and no longer a threat she will be released. I look for that to be soon.
That was exactly what I was thinking.
So what's the big deal... Most women who kill their babies are not even charged.
It's no different for me if they killed them before they were born or after.
I wonder,, had this father come home and seen what this crazy bitch did,, put a bullet in her,,, would temporary insanity have worked ?
