Yet another outstanding read by the excellent editorial staff of the WS Journal.

This article needs to be given wide circulation among GOP faithful.

Boehner values a good suntan. That says it all.

Okay I've been all over these threads the last two days talking about this sort of thing. Just today I was reading up on a possible candidate for POTUS '08.

Mark Sanford is part of that Freshman class of '94. He was one of the ones to leave because he promised a term limit and actually followed through with that promise. Now he's the twice elected Governor of South Carolina.

Sounds like leader material to me.

Yup. They should have stuck with core principles and focus: the Contract with America.

Mike Pence for Minority Leader 2006.

The difference between Gingrich and Boehner:

Gingrich did a nice job.

Boehner has a nice job.

"Republicans also need to rediscover an agenda for reforming government programs that don't work or threaten to bankrupt future generations. The Gingrich Republicans did that with welfare reform in the 1990s, and they tried with Medicaid. Then President Bush gave Republicans a once-in-a-generation chance to reform Social Security and health care along free market lines, but GOP House leaders fought him behind the scenes. For this alone, they should be returned to the backbenches."

A truer statement I couldn't write myself. We need to reform the reformers, they need to remember why they were sent there in 94.

Before you can have "new leaders" you have to get rid of the "old leaders". The problem here is that they haven't had any leaders at all for years. One can hardly call milquetoasts like Frist and Hastert "leaders". These clowns couldn't lead a lemming into the sea.

I hate the Open Borders Crowd on the Wall Street Journal editorial staff.

Thank you for posting.

Fred Barnes stated last night on SRWBH that Boehner would prevail as Minority Leader. I applaud his position on not accepting earmarks, but he needs to go. The WSJ Editorial is so spot on.

And I'm happy to say that Tom Reynolds, NY-26, is now just going to be a back-bencher in the new House. What a 'frigging porker he was.
