THAT would be an ideal replacement!!!!!! Mehlman is very nice but we need a stronger communicator and Steele would be perfect!

I kind of like the idea of Newt as head of the RNC. I'm not sure that he would ever be a viable candidate again, but orchestrating a conservative come back seems to suit him.

I like Steele a LOT and think he'd be super in that position - -articulate, presents himself well, can tell people (WAcomPost) off in a nice way, and the list goes on! I am wondering, though, if he takes this job, will it have any effect if he wants to run again for Senator, Gov, or down the road maybe even VP or Pres?

BTW - if the Dimwits won't accept John Bolton for UN Amb. how about General Honore?? I can see him now asking Chavez and AI'manutjob and a few others if there Stuck on Stupid - LOL!

What is it with Dems not being able to handle gay republicans?
They just seem like they have to tell everyone. Who cares?

That's what I'm sayin'. Newt's days as a candidate in this climate are over and even he knows that. But as the head of the RNC??? Genius, pure genius!!!

I like the idea too but I think Newt may have his sights set a little higher (not sure he'll be the candidate...baggage). Steele on the other hand would be great. I think his loss was one of the most disappointing of the election.

I think Steele has a chance to get elected in the future. Newt? Not so much. He is a very bright guy, and I think he would serve well as head of the RNC.

Mehlman has been "out" for quite a long time. This is not news to anyone but the Dems really hate Gay people and Black people for some reason.

Well they would get no joy in telling anyone if people didn't HIDE it....

When someone throws their hat into the political arena- they need to bare the closet....

Not just so we can make good decisions-- but so we don't waste our time and money on a candidate that cannot be elected because some stupid October surprise will come along-- and we can get someone to run wihtout the "surprises"-- but mostly because this way-- they can govern effectively...which means-- they CANNOT BE BRIBED OR BLACKMAILED!

I am sick of stupid "scandals"

there would be dang SCANDAL if people were just honest....

Meanwhile, the Israeli PM according to one source, has been told to delay his DC visit on the 13th. "According to (an) official, the Baker-Hamilton panel is charting drastic changes in administration policy on Israel"

The GOP needs to adopt the "No Pooftahs" rule.

No Pooftahs!

No Pooftahs!

He is much better as a campaign manager then as head of RNC but then I wouldn't want to have to work State Chairs or some of the National Committee men and women we have from states like mine.

Newt running the RNC, and Mike Pence as Minority Leader. Sounds like a winner to me. Who knows, if that happens I may even start donating to the RNC again.
