LEXANDRIA, Va. Two days after American voters spoke, Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen made their decision final when he conceded his Senate battle to challenger Jim Webb, officially completing a Democratic sweep of Congress. Allen conceded the race at 3:15 p.m. ET during a press conference Thursday in Alexandria, Va. "Sometimes wins, political or otherwise, can blow the leaves off branches or even break limbs but a deep-rooted tree
will regrow in the next season," Allen said during his concession speech. The voters of Virginia have spoken, he said, "and I respect their decision."

I agree.
Sorry I refuse to vote for any who run as a rat... I don't care if they served in the military... A rat is a rat... By the way if he left the Reagan admin on a positive why didn't Nancy support him??
Webb is also:
Anti-Iraq (cut and run)
Pro-abortion
Pro-Labor
Wants to hike the minimum wage
Has said the government "needs more revenue"
Stands proudly with Hillary, Bill, Kerry, Schumer and Jesse Jackson.
Do we ignore that because of his military record?
I guess... We must not bash who served in the military.. Look I'm not knocking down what Jim Webb did in Vietnam, but come on, Hillary Cliton supported this dweeb....
Well, y'all just need to get over it.
There was simply NO WAY he was going to make up enough votes to turn this around. Virginia's not like other states. We're pretty accurate on our vote tallies the first time we count.
Sure we watched all the RATS challenge everything. And we saw how ugly they can get.
That's why they're rats and we're not.
Sure, I'll splain it to you...
1) he was making a joke that backfired, terribly.
2) the reality there probably weren't a half dozen people in the world, certainly not in the Commonwealth, who knew the word "macaca" as a racial slur (and that's not the actual word, by the way) until the Webb campaign put the definition on Wikipedia three days after the event.
3) Even the Washington Post in one of their over 200 articles about "macaca" admitted it to be be a "word for which no one really knows the definition."
4) You have to understand, as Senator Allen does, and as I do because I'm from that region, what the "real Virginia" means to the people along the Virginia/Kentucky border.
That region of the state is west of DETROIT and "closer to the captial of eight other states." When you hear people talk about "Southwest Virginia" most would think Roanoke. Problem is, you've got another four hours of driving before you get to the "real Southwest Virginia."
People out there feel abandoned by Richmond and by Washington. If you watched the tape, you heard their applause. And that's why.
THAT'S what Allen was trying to say. There's no denying it backfired horribly.
But there was NO racist intent. I know him personally. Know his family. No the people who have travelled with him daily for over 20 years. He's no racist.
It should have been over when he apologized. If that "R" behind his name was a "D" it would have been.
Allen is a good man who ran a terrible campaign. The voters will soon find out how Liberal Webb is.
Allen should have been more forthright about his conservative views...if he has any. Voting for them is not enough...speaking loudly for conservative values would have gotten him elected.
I mean golly gee...his big thing was women in the military which Webb opposes. Did he think liberals would flock to him over that?
Republicans had better start getting a backbone. And get rid of the RINOs like the Unicorn/clone defender in PA.
Your comments are well made. I can't imagine Webb suffering fools as a Democrat.
He significantly narrowed the gender gap with those ads. And the focus was far less "women in the military" than the nasty things Webb said about women in the military.
And that includes some deep blue states.
No, I'm afraid you have a tin ear when it comes to naming an election winning tune.
A good percentage of N. Virginia voters work in defense related areas so there is method in their madness.
BUMP
LOL. Did you expect his close friend to write something negative about him?
Here's another take on Webb. Of course, it's your prerogative to fall for the spin if you so choose. The sophisticated manipulating the naive is nothing new.
"A Jim Webb Fib?"

Physician, heal thyself.
Webb is something of a literary figure ... among his books is a brilliant historical novel, "The Emperor's
General," about Gen. Douglas MacArthur's running of postwar Japan.
... maybe this Webb guy can help put together a better strategy for post-invasion Iraq, seeing how MacArthur's plans turned out pretty darn good.
I was thinking that down the line when the fascists come out in the open and start rounding up the Jews for incineration Webb is going to personally pick up Don Graham ~ thank him ~ and then, Mengele like, toss him into the ovens himself.
